Brennan's Tanzanite Blue M4 Convertible

Hi all! I’ve been lurking around the forum for a few months now, but I think it’s finally time I started my own build thread.

My previous car was a Volvo C70, which I had been driving just about 6 years (the longest I’ve owned a vehicle yet). It was a fantastic car, but I’d had it long enough and was itching for something new and more performance oriented. I looked at the E class, 435i, Q60 etc... Then I took out an M4 for a test drive in February and that was it, I had to have one. None of the standard colours were really appealing to me, so I knew I was going to go with Tanzanite Blue ... unfortunately this meant the earliest allocation available was in mid-April as the semi-individual colours required a lot more lead up time. I put down my deposit, and the three and a half month wait began. (click on any pics for full size)

The car went into production mid April, and I started collecting stuff for the car while I waited. Detailing products, cosmetic mods etc…




Timeline from order to delivery:
Test Drive and down payment - Feb 24, 2015
Started production - April 6, 2015
Finished production - April 16, 2015
Booked at port - May 6, 2015
Received at terminal - May 11, 2015
Loaded on ship (Don Juan) - May 11, 2015
Arrived in Halifax - May 19, 2015
Loaded on Train - May 25, 2015
Arrived in Montreal - May 29, 2015
Loaded on Truck - June 03, 2015
Arrived at dealer in Ottawa - June 04, 2015
MINE!!!!! - June 06, 2015


I happened to swing by the dealer shortly after the truck dropped my car off, just as the tech was about to take it out for its PDI test drive. This was my first time seeing the colour in person and even being covered in plastic and still dirty from it's trip, I was just floored. No pictures do this colour justice, it is simply gorgeous. He offered to take me along for the car's first real drive and I got to take the very first pictures of the car:




Two days later, off to the dealer with a big cheque to pick her up!





Mods to date:
35% tint all around
IND painted side reflectors
TB Painted engine cover
M-Performance pedals
Full paint correction and detail, sealant, wax, wolfs glass coating etc…
Removed sun visor warning labels

I'm still on the fence about black kidney grills and side gills, but I'll probably end up painting them.

Coding:
I haven’t been able to code anything under fembody yet (and I haven’t had the time to really debug the problem), but so far I’ve coded ASD off and removed all warnings. Both great mods.


The Car:
After a full wash/decontaminate/paint correction/sealant/wax, the sun finally came out. I can’t compare with some of the fantastic photographers on this site, but here’s the results:












Interior:
There are days I mildly regret not going for full leather, but then I put my foot down and I forget all about it.




Some examples of the different colours the car has depending on the lighting:
Tanzinite Blue has almost chameleon paint like qualities. It ranges from almost black, to royal purple to a deep shimmering blue ... sometimes all at the same time. I have yet to see pictures that truly do it justice.







I'll try to update this thread periodically with a full review, and as I add more mods etc...

Gorgeous, and that's the thing about TZB. Until you see it, you can't know that it's about 5 colors depending on the light. Now, drive the hell out of it before it starts snowing up there. You only have til about August 15th, right? Good luck, great car.

reminds me of my carbon black GC but more blue tone. it looks blue, purple, and black depending on light conditions

The pull out thigh bolsters are awesome (as are the seats in general), it's unfortunate the coupe/sedan don't get them. If I had one complaint about the seats, it's that they seem to be slightly off center ... I've gotten used to it pretty quickly though.

Sounds about right, I've already ordered the snow plow to stick on the front of the car for the other 10 months of the year.

Hi Brennan, I really like your photos...looking forward to more. I am waiting on a new M3 in tanzanite and sahkir and am wondering what you mean by full paint correction? How does the paint correction change the factory color...maybe I will do it too. Thanks sandyc

Took a few quick shots with the winter tires on. 19x8.5" square setup on LM-32s. Apologies for the poor cell phone pics, I'll take some real shots with an SLR at some point.

While I hate verts, I will say that TB is the only color I would even consider outside of black. VERY nice color in person!
