Gloss Black vs Chrome Grille
I'm curious why these are so prevalent. Is it an anti-chrome thing or folks just prefer the gloss black? I saw both at my local dealership and I preferred the chrome at the time but coming here and seeing how common of a mod it is has me doubting my initial impression.

It's a personal thing. I myself like the black as it adds to the "aggressiveness" of the package, while better matching the window trim and, for me, black wheels.
With that being said, with certain packages and trims, the chrome looks better... But again, it's a personal thing.

In the real world, virtually every BMW or M car for that matter is left unchanged cosmetically. Most people do it for a few reasons. 1. They think it flat out looks meaner and more aggressive. 2. Chrome has never looked good IMO 3. It's been done so many times before and still looks good My personal opinion is that it makes any car look better regardless of color. But op, do what makes you happy. Don't just do something that you think everyone else seems to be doing. If you won't like it then put that money to something more valuable in your eyes. |

Thanks for the responses guys. As expected (at least from the users on this forum) the gloss black is the preference. I think I'm going to stick with the chrome for now but could be a cool way to change things up after a year or so though.

What about 'black chrome', similar to the M3 GTS grilles?

Also curious about matte black which would match the m performance lip and rocker panels. Can't find any pictures of matte black though. |

I'm still on the fence about this one. I really like the aggressive look of the black surrounds, but having a tanzanite blue car the contrast of the chrome works really well too. I may pick up some black surrounds and try them out for a while to see which I like better.

Chrome doesn't belong on this car. It belongs on trucks...and just barely.

There was another thread about this i'll share the same comments I mentioned on there though:
the black gloss ones make the grill look meaner and a bit bigger than it actually is which is why if you compare it side by side with a chrome it kind of looks better |
