Custom Painted Grill Surrounds and Engine Cover

I have a really good auto body shop nearby and I decided to get them to paint my grill surrounds and engine cover. I have seen several F80's with gloss black surrounds, but I personally like this look better.

They prepped, primed, painted, and clear-coated all three parts after I removed them and brought them in. The B50 / SO paint matches perfectly.

Paint and primer ran $90, and the labor was $360, for a total of $450. One of the reasons the labor was that much was that on the engine cover, they hand-painted the stripes and "M" gloss black, and then hand-painted each M Stripe too.

I am very happy with the way they came out.

I have XPEL on the entire front of my car…thought about doing the surrounds too, but I bought a paint touch-up kit instead and will just fix them myself when they get chipped.

Next up is an M-Performance Spoiler I think, but I may wait a bit since I have spent a lot on MODS lately.

Thanks…that's where I got the idea…from your picture! But if I had bought both the surrounds and the cover aftermarket, it would have cost much more than I spent. Decided to go this route for these mods instead.

Hopefully will be able to get an M Performance carbon spoiler with CRT painted stripe from iND with the savings soon!

That CCA badge really puts my OCD into overdrive though. Not my taste but as long as you like it then I'm happy for you.

Wow. I feel just the opposite. The CCA badge looks killer along with the fantastic job they did on the grill surrounds and the engine cover. LOVE it OP!

I'm glad I saw his picture. I wasn't sure where to put my grill badge. Now I know. The M grill badge looks great and put where the OP did, it offsets the M badge on the other grille. Thanks OP!!

For some reason, this looks better to me on SO than other colors. A little more classic BMW, that has some body color between the headlights and grilles. Seeing this again now, I realize it's actually the same effect as the 'blacked out' kidneys: gets rid of the chrome, blends with the air intakes better.

This doesn't look as good on AW, mainly cuz AW is such a dull, boring color I think...

I agree...I really like the gloss black on all other F8X's, but for some reason it just looks better on the SO, IMHO.
