Wierd Problem - Stripped screw in door handle?

I was installing the bavsound stage one upgrade on my car this afternoon. All went well except for the passenger side front door. The bottom screw came out like all the others. The one near the top of the door handle started normally, but then stopped about 1/3 of the way out. It still rotates, but doesn't back out further. I can screw it back in tight, then loosen it but it hits the same point and does not further loosen, even though it rotates. This was from a factory installed screw. I have never had this happen and am at a loss for how I am to remove the screw so that I can complete the install.

Anybody have ideas?

Did you try pulling it out a little further with pliers and then unscrewing?

Yes, you just need to pull it out with plier.

OK, I will try that tomorrow. So just grab the screw with needle nose pliers and pull it further out to catch the threads again - then continue unscrewing.

I'd try to find something to let you put outward pressure on it while still trying to unscrew it. I usually use pliers wedged under the head of the screw and pull while unscrewing it.

I bought a replacement door nut and screw, and was prepared with needle nose pliers - it's a pretty tight opening. Yesterday I had tried loosening the panel and pulling on it to apply the pressure, but that didn't work.

Today, it just came right out with no muss or fuss. I installed the last speakers and the new nut and screw.

All is well. Thanks for all the advice!
