Leather dash
So i really didn't think 3 grand for full leather was worth it but I really wish they offered only a dash option for less. Are there any solutions out there to have just the dash covered or to buy a new top piece. I have an SO interior and would love to have black leather with red stitching up there.

I wouldn't trust an aftermarket job.
In addition to the top of the dash, the front of the glovebox and the doors are what add the feeling of upscale. I'm very glad I got it myself. |

The $3K covers an entire different level of leather in the car. I have always upgraded the inside of the car since that's where I spend most of my time. It feels good and looks good. Is it expensive...sure but on a % basis compared to the rest of the purchase price it's a small price to pay to enjoy the spoils of a nice leather interior. Anything aftermarket IMO would be a big mistake.

I'm with you OP. I wish I could have selected an option for a leather dash. I did not like SO w the hockey stick look. Had I gone all black I would have selected full leather.
It's a shame that you can select a leather dash on lower model BMWs but not the M3.

I got extended vs full leather. The ONLY choice I regret is not going full leather. But.. Never when I'm driving, only when I'm hanging out here.

On the regular 3-series (and 4) you can get the top of the dash in leather for $1000 (swedish price) and the full dash + doors are $250 more. So I think that is what the OP would have liked to be an option for the M's too.

There is no "top" of the dash in leather, not even in the Swedish F3x. It is the Full Leather dashboard (4M5), Full Leather dashboard with top of the doors (XT1, and only with Individual interiors) or no Leather.

Well, that is what I meant (two cheaper options). I just worded it pretty bad.

It does make sense that it should be possible to swap out your dash and replace it with an OEM leather covered part. If I were to try to add full leather after the fact that is the *only* way I would do it. That said, the price would be way way more than $3k I am sure. I'd guess $10k.

Full leather wasn't even full leather IMO. Full leather to me is everything covered. Dash top and bottom, full doors (not just a portion), center console, the part where the rear view mirror mounts to the windshield, the back of the seats, etc. Full leather couldn't make up for the remainder of the very cheap feeling interior on my F80 M3, and to boot the headliner felt even cheaper.

This is the kind of question that, if you have to ask then... pay the dealer to do it.
Replacing the whole dash and glovebox is about a 4-5 hour job if you know your way with interiors, harnesses, clips, and connectors. It is quite messy but ultimately rewarding -if you like this kind of DIY. |

I hated the Red contrast stitch in the SO interior. I preferred the white/Silver Stitching on the black and SS interiors. I could have dealt with the Hockey stick, but I hate that stitching.
