Stock brake pads life

So I have 12,000 miles on my M4 and I am curious as to how long the brake pads last. Sometimes I have a little noise coming from the brakes and some judder also. The sensors say I still have a bunch of miles left of them but it can't be right. Have you guys changed your pads yet and at how many miles did you do so?

Keep in mind I have never tracked the car.

If you're having noise and jutter issues, most likely you have some uneven pad deposits on the rotor from overheating your pads at some point. It is not a matter of pad thickness or wear, so the sensors will not pick up the problem. Take it to the dealer, they should replace the rotors/pads as necessary. They are included in the free maintenance.

I know this is an old thread, but curious if anyone with a higher mileage M3 or M4 has an update. The '08 335 I'm getting rid of had insane pad life. I drove it 115k miles (2/3 highway) before it needed new pads and rotors. Has anyone replaced their pads/rotors, and, if so, at what mileage, and what driving conditions?

I am only close to 12K miles but I just switched out the stock pads for low dust Power Stop ceramic pads and the stock pads (both front and rear) look like they have a massive amt of material left. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the stock pads lasted close to 100K miles. This is shocking considering how much material is scrubbed off the stock pads as they completely dust up the rims with very little driving.

The shutter and vibrations are a known issue and BMW is currently working on it, so I have been told.

It has to do with a material incompatibility with the rotors and pads on the steel brakes.

I've had my pad & rotors replaced twice now already because of this.

Just had my car inspected. 24k miles. iDrive and BMW say that the pads will last till roughly 110-130k rear/front. Based upon visual inspection, I can confirm this appears accurate.

I truly don't know how BMW put in place a pad that dusts so much, performs so well (for an OEM pad), and has such long life. My guess is they invested in better pad technology to avoid doing pads/rotors under the maintenance plan as that was their largest cost under the old 4/50k program. Mainly because BMW recommended replacing rotors any time you do pads, and their old pads would usually wear out by 35-40k.
