I like it. Great price point for a car with M DCT.

I'm glad someone started this thread.
Yes, the weight does bother me too, then again it's only $51,000 base price compared to Cayman S or GTS which is much lighter but at a much higher price point. I do think the Cayman looks better though. The only thing that really really bothers me about the new M2 are those side view mirrors. They aren't ///M mirrors, and are no different than a base 228i side view mirrors. I thought bona fide M cars were supposed to come with their own bespoke side view mirrors as well? So many M cars in the past just wouldn't look right if they came with the same mirrors as one the base models. I just hope that ///M Division isn't starting a trend with this for future M cars. I would have really like to have been there for that meeting when they got together and made a conscious decision to not design bespoke mirrors for the new M2. At least the 1M used the mirrors from the E92 M3. Come on M Division what's going on here??

Not sure if the fenders/suspension allow 3 cm wider tires. The OEM tires are 245(front) and 265(rear)

A little low on power making it less suited for track days on many circuits. An excellent DD though being so compact and likely nimble!

Yeah I think the difference is less than 100lbs between King and the M2. All in all I think BMW made the M2 what it needed to be, a small sporty car that has great utility and some comfort as well. Not as fast as the M4 for obvious reasons, but the engine in the M2 is a tried and tested platform that people have been modding for a very long time. I can see boyracers, tuners, and high school kids tuning the M2, slapping on bigger turbos and destroying the King with E85 and Meth all day every day. In the end though, compared to today's other sports cars, the M2 is quite heavy and will never be able to out turn a Cayman S, an Alfa 4C in corners, or maybe even a 2016 Miata, but then again the M2 was never meant to do that either. I haven't read the full technical details yet, but so far as I can tell BMW did really have an aggressive use of CFRP to at least make it as light as the E46 M3. That would've truly made it a great BMW in my opinion. Something to really harken back to those who reminisce of the good ole days driving the E46 M3 on the track. I'm too young to remember those days though.

Case in point. Dammit BMW get with the future already. The M2 could've been A LOT lighter, but due to old ways of thinking at the top levels of ///M leadership and a propensity to not produce something so fantastic that it will absolutely obliterate the King, we haven't seen the adoption of this technology yet. This technology has been available since 2011 for crying out loud. Stop mass production of CFRP already and get to work with this stuff.

I'm a little surprised the M2 wheels are the same width as M5. With all the extra power I think this shows the M5 should have been set up with wider rears at the minimum. Good thing for Aftermarket wheels.

For example, the same wheel's width (rim's width) does not mean the same tire's width. For a 9" rim you can go from 245 to 275 mm tire since 9" rim is only 228 mm wide by itself. In this case M5 has 2cm/3cm wider tire (front/rear) compare to M2 (265/295 compare to 245/265) On the other hand, the extra power and torque can be managed with wider track width which is mainly the result of axle length and how rim is mounted and then many parameters come to the play such as under-steering or over-steering depend on track width or wheelbase or etc...and keep in mind different rims have different offsets that can change the track width too. One example is the rear setup of M5 vs M6. M6 rear wheels have 19 mm offset vs 34mm offset of M5 while both have almost the same axle/suspension. Now why M6 has more aggressive offset? because has lower center of gravity and can take advantage of wider track width But overall wider tires cause better traction and sometimes better handling however the last one (handling) obviously is not being applied to big and heavy cars like M5/M6. I'm totally happy with my MPSS 305 rear tires but I can tell you with this tire my car is not as agile as OEM MPSS 295...
