how much for water pump and thermostat replacement?
i'm considering purchasing a 128i with 110k miles for a track car build.
current owner (2nd) doesn't have much in terms of service records, but states that fluids have been done on time. he also states that the water pump and thermostat are also due for replacement as maintenance items. there will obviously be a PPI, but just wondering, how much total cost (parts+labor) will it be for water pump AND thermostat? anything else i should be anticipating replacement right off the bat? thank you

If the dealer does it usually 1500-1800 and could be a big cheaper if you do it yourself or get an indy dealership to do it.
How many KM's on the car? Usually they go from 90KM-160KM |

purchase waterpump kit online... its cheaper and seems easy enough to be a DIY with no special tools needed since the pump stands alone. my car just hit 100k miles and still no issues! taking it in for a belt/tensioner change this week.

I think theyre wrong. OP. The waterpump and tstat will work until they dont. BMW has some quality control issues with their electric pumps and tstats, so you can theoretically replace them and have the new pump go in 10K miles. Theyre kind of a crap shoot. Better off to just wait for it to go and keep a new one on hand in case youre at a non-local track. Its 400-500 dollars for the parts. Install is a bit of a pain but doable on jackstands, toughest part is moving the steeringrack to the side for access. |

It's been a while but I think it's $500 in parts and 3 hours labor. You should consider doing the oil filter housing gasket since you need to flush the coolant. I found parts way cheaper online between FCP and eBay (BMW genuine parts).
