My trip to Lightweight
I recently contacted Lightweight directly regarding their Lightweight lip. I spoke to Marc and he offered me a sweet deal with install if I drove up to their factory. He did me a solid and let me go on a Saturday, they don't work in the weekend. Took me three hours to get up to their factory from Stuttgart, which was a nice trip as there were many unrestricted stretches of autobahn on the way there. Fastest I got the car was 125mph. It's still int he break-in period so I didn't want to push it close to the 5,500rpm limit. Here I am parked in front of their factory. I got their a few minutes before Marc did.
The Lightweight M4's battery was dead, so Marc showed up in their van. I didn't photograph it. He did have their M235i, which I didn't take any photos of because he pulled it out and I was in my car ready to pull in. Their factory was very impressive and clean. What you can see here is only 1/8th of the building. I didn't photograph a whole bunch of stuff because I never asked Marc if I could and didn't want to just assume I could. Here is my car finished and pulled out of the building. Note their M235i racer in the back. I made it back home in time to hit the car wash. Since the weather was pretty overcast at Lightweight and I was super-starved, I didn't give the lip a very good look over before leaving. At home, something shiny caught my eye as I was ready to head out. Marc didn't align the lip well enough and one of the screws completely missed the mark.. After I washed the car, I knew I had to remount the lip. I didn't have a jack or stands...but I have bumper plates. I made a makeshift ramp out of my plates and it gave me more than enough clearance to get under the car and re-mount it. Here is a picture of the damage. The install was too easy and I was mad at myself for letting someone else mount it when I knew I was more than capable. Here it is after I re-mounted it. |

my favorite lip thus far for the f8x...
I'm wondering how this lip would look wrapped in gloss black along with just wrapping the bottom of the bumper in gloss black, the parts where the oem splitters woujld cover...hmmmm

Sorry to see the damage though... with such an easy install AND a hoist Id be extremely disappointed in that shotty work.

Great pictures, Marc and the crew are good people.
Too bad about the install, things link this can happen if rushed or not paying full attention. Luckily, it can be easily be repaired as good as new.

Marc is the one who installed it. He apologized and I left it at that, he admitted it was a big mistake. He came in on his day off and cut me a sick deal, so I'm not chasing anything from him. |
