1 month review YMB M4

So, I picked up this beauty on 12/01/15. Currently at 786 miles and I cannot wait to hit the 1200 mark. It's like having a naked woman infront of you, temptation is very real.

Anyways, when the m4 was first released, I wasn't a fan honestly. Then, I took a trip to my local BMW and test drove one and wow, right then and there I decided I had to have this car. First car was a 2001 lexus gs300, second was a 2009 range rover sport, so this is my first real sports car. I've dreamed of having a m3 coupe since I was 14.

I finally decided it was time to start shopping around june of 2015. However, when I purchased my range rover sport (used) I settled for a grey one rather than waiting for the exact one I wanted, it was a highschool graduation gift (extremely thankful). So this time around I was going to wait and get the exact M4 I wanted because I plan on owning this car my whole life.

November came and I found a YMB M4 at Rusnak BMW, fully loaded with every package with silverstone interior. I started talking to sales associate, to be honest, I was not a fan of the way I was treated. I mean it was literally like the salesmen did not want to make a sale. I have never been treated so poorly when trying to purchase a car, especially an 80k car. I don't mean to intend to bash on Rusnak as I've heard very good things about them which is why I chose to reach out to them first. It may just have been my personal experience.

So, I went to my local BMW dealership in Fresno, CA and showed them the car I wanted from Rusnak. They told me they could get me the car and we were set on a deal. As we were about to finalize paperwork, the finance manager told me they actually just ordered the same car with individual white interior, car had every package BMW had to offer besides the ceramic breaks (which I did not want anyways). The price difference was 2k more than the model at Rusnak BMW, and they were not willing to scratch the 2k off and sell me the car for the same price as the one from Rusnak, so I said thank you but no thank you. He proceeded to go speak to his supervisor and they made a deal for the same price.

Now was the waiting game, which was awful, but exciting. I couldn't believe I was really getting my dream car. I'm currently 21, so this is beyond exciting, though I am also very grateful for being able to obtain this car at this young of an age as well. I finished paperwork 4 days before thanksgiving, I was told it would be here by thanksgiving and it ended up being held up at the port. I was devastated.

12/01/15 came around and I get a call while I'm at work letting me know my car is ready to be picked up. Boy I cannot explain how bad I wanted to just leave my job and go pick it up . So I drive to the dealership, and there she is, sitting right by a white m3. I inspect it, go get the keys and take it on a drive to go fill it up (the gas pump at the dealer was down). Still couldn't believe this was my car.

Today, a one month review and wow, I'm still more than happy with this purchase. I always knew M cars were special, but I honestly did not think they were this much of a special car. I've kept it under 5500 and even with that, the power is just incredible. Fresno is relatively small, so there aren't too many M's in town or exotic cars. I can't even imagine what it's like to drive a car like a Ferrari or GT3!

As far as performance mods, as of now I don't think I plan on doing much. Maybe, Dinan Stage 1 tune and that is solely becuase I don't want to play with my warranty on the car. I doub't I'll end up spending the money, but thats the only possible performance I would do besides something to boost up the sound of the car. I'm not nearly dissapointed with the sound, but it would be nice to have a deeper exhaust. There is no way would drop 4-6k on an exhaust so that's out of the picture, downpipes would be the only option. I did have a question if somebody could help out, as far as downpipes, everywhere i've looked to purchase some state they are not allowed in California due to emissions. So if I purchased them and installed them, would they pass smog? Also, would they have any interference with warranty?

Exterior mods, I just purchased a carbon spoiler. Other than that I plan on blacking out the grill, and carbon mirrors. At some point I will do the carbon splitters and lip but that's later down the road.

Only downside to the car is the white interior and that is simply because I am overly protective when it comes to my cars. I love keeping them in pristine condition, the smallest thing will break my heart lol. So, I drive with towels on the seats so I don't stain the seats. I also purchased a leather cleaner & protector.

All and all, I am more than happy and wouldn't have spent the money on any other car. Lots of my buddies ask why I didn't go for a used Maserati granturismo or something of that nature and my answer is simple. This is my DD, my service is free, and quite frankly, I think this car is much cooler than a Maserati. Used M6 was also in the picture but I personally think the M4 is the best looking BMW to date. There are few cars I would take over mine and those are equivalent to about 5 of mine, so until I get my funds incredibly higher I'll be happy with the M.

Here are some pics!

Congrats

If I honestly didn't have an EB 3er I would have gotten YMB instead. Sigh.

Our M cars, and in my humble opinion, YMB, is a car after you get out, as you are walking away, you have to turn and look back to admire her. I haven't often I've walked from my M4 since i bought it without turning back and admiring her, love YMB. Grats on the car, she is special

Beautiful car. What do you think of the YMB a month into it? Does it get a lot of attention? I think that's the color I'm going to go for and it will be drastically different than my last 5 white cars. My parents think I'm crazy getting that color, but I've tried to tell them that if I'm going to get the M I'm going to get the M color.

With respect to your questions:

1. No, your car will most definitely not pass a smog test if you installed downpipes. However, in California, you only need to smog a brand new car after 6 years. So, if you don't plan to keep your car for longer than 6 yrs, you will only need to install and remove 1x when you're parting out to sell the car. Also, installing DPs on a F8x is much easier than on a E9x 335 and isn't as much of a PITA.

2. It may or may not affect your warranty. Too many variables to give a definitive answer. It depends on your service advisor and the relationship you have with him, what type of work is being done on the car, how mod friendly your dealer service dept is, what other mods you have on the car (i.e. tune, piggyback, larger turbos, etc.) and whether your car has a minor hiccup that's not engine related or has a massive catastrophic engine or transmission failure.

My two color dilemmas were Austin yellow or YMB. I've always loved this blue on M cars and have dreamed of this color combo since I was 14, so I had to go with this choice. Regarding attention, there aren't many M's or exotics in Fresno so it does get a pretty good amount of attention.

I caught some guy in a 550i today taking a picture while I was driving and he almost crashed. Glad he was ok but you get my point, lol.

You cannot go wrong with this color in my opinion.

Thanks for the response. I figured it wouldn't since it said due to emissions. Regarding the dinan, I highly doubt I'll go for that anyways, but it's in the air. Does anybody know if installing down pipes might affect warranty?

Great story and looking M4!

Hear you on the stealership games, it's part of it sometimes, but looks like you met a straight shooting dealership at the end.

As for other options, used Maser GT engine sounds lovely but just a very different type of car, very big, unwieldy, and somewhat dated. If anything, I might have gone with a GT350 w/ Track Package, but def. not as refined/and built like a german sports GT car.

Regarding exhaust, let it break in more, and the deeper tone might be enough for you at that point. The fiber glass filament in the can needs to burn in and settle. If not, add the DPs, and that alone will probably get you to where you need.

DPs - shops on this forum can sell them to you locally, reach out to tom @ eas . He can also explain your options re: dealing with the CEL light that will turn on when installing DPs. Yea, SMOG isn't an issue until 6 years later, just do it, if you're really interested in DPs.

Is that a white interior?!? AWESOME.

Looks good. You are very fortunate to be driving an $80K car at the age of 21. At 21 i had a $10K Honda Accord. Im now 36 and have a $80K car on order.

i know your grateful and its nice to see such gratitude at a young age.

Enjoy.
