I won't say lack of imagination since while C,E and S are similar they at least represent a completely new design from previous gen.

The new 7 on the other hand looks similar to and slightly worse than the old 7. The new 7 interior is almost identical to the old 7. It even uses many of the same components. The seat for instance is the same just wish better stitching.

I actually think it is BMW which is running out of imagination. The G30 will look almost same as current F10 except it will have those crappy 3 series style headlamps.

It is when two successive generations of car look the same that I get annoyed.

you have a point, but its kinda stupid to have all 3 classes of sedans look exactly the same from couple hundred meters away.

i actually like new 7 series a lot both exterior and interior. I know it is not a huge jump as in w221 and w222, but it has its own unique look and new technology. but beauty is in the eyes of beholder

I was at the dealer the other day.
On display were: an X4, a 5 GT, a 3 GT and a 2 series.

Very depressing.

No way I ever own a car with those pimple style backlights.

Luckily they kept the rectangular lights for the 2-door cars. But overall - meh.

Yeah I kind of do think that both companies are running out of imagination on the exterior. At least Mercedes interior is progressive. It makes me appreciate the vast differences in looks between the old E90, E60, and E65. I still have trouble telling the difference between an F30, F10, and F01 sometimes. The G11 doesn't look much different than the F01 either. :/
