Are dark wheels going to stay in style?
I bought an AW E92 ZCP a few months ago and have been planning on getting the 359 wheels powder coated to a darker color. Maybe not quite black, but maybe an anthracite type color. Have just been waiting until it's time to get tires to do it.
Just ordered new tires, but starting to get cold feet on switching the rim color. Are dark wheels getting so common that they will fall out of style? Will I hurt the value of my stock car by changing the rim color? I definitely like the looks of dark wheels on AW, but I'm beginning to wonder if I would regret the purchase later. |

It will turn off some buyers, yes, but ultimately it is your car and you should be the one who likes it.
I'm sure that when the time comes around to sell your car, you can easily find someone to buy the black ones or just trade for silver. People love swapping wheels. That being said, my two cents is that silver wheels will never go out of style and are always a classic look and safe choice.

OP's question is flawed, dark wheels went out of style five years ago...
(Search and find myriad "murdered out" wheel threads from back in '08-'10.) Please, don't.

Great question. IMO black/graphite wheels are a fad, just like chrome wheels in the 90's. Polished or silver is timeless and classic and will always look good.

IMO, black wheels are way overplayed and I think the fad has past its apex. I think the look works on highly modded cars with bright colors, but on a mostly stock car, I think silver OEM wheels are much classier. That said, I do think black ZCP wheels look good on a white E92. But rather than paint your ZCPs, I would just look for a set of pre-owned GTS wheels and grab those, then keep your stock ZCPs for when you want to sell the car or change it up. Your car looks excellent as is! |

I agree that your wheels look great. My car is AW with black zcp weeks and I'm already looking to grab another set of weels to change the look. Your car looks amazing btw.

Thanks. Not looking to go all the way black, but more like anthracite or gun metal.
Not a fan of the all black because I agree that there is no contrast. Can also make the tires look brown if you don't keep them Armor All'd. |

I actually prefer black to gunmetal/anthracite on a white car. It just makes the wheels look dirty all the time, IMO.

If you think black/anthracite colored wheels are a fad or overplayed, you haven't been into this hobby for a very long time. That's comparable to saying blue jeans are a fad. There will always be a place for darker colored wheels. Certain wheels, both factory and aftermarket, are known for being black. Even the GTS had 359s in black.
OP, it all boils down to what YOU like. If you have to ask a forum about changing something like the color of wheels, I think you already know your answer. I think your car would look great either way. |

Going to be a pain in the neck. Have to jack the car, put on stands, pull the wheels. Will have to take the wheels to Discount Tire and have the tires pulled. Then take to the powder coater and should take about a week and a half to complete. Then back to Discount Tire to get my new tires put on and back onto the car. First world problems. |
