E92 vs 2017 ZL1
arstechnica.com/cars/2016/03/chevrolets-new-fire-spitting-640hp-camaro-
As much as I love the NA M3 I'm more and more realizing it is so lacking in torque in comparison to modern cars. New ZL1 with 640 HP/TQ may be too much to pass up. Literally twice as much TQ as the e92 M3?? Yikes, my decision gets harder and harder every time these new cars get announced. GT350, ZL1.... |

I think it's all about context behind the purchase, though. I knew walking into my M3 purchase that it wasn't going to be the end all solution to slaying cars on the track/street. Sometimes you just enjoy the subjective, visceral experience.

If you're in it to beat other people, whether that be straight line or on a track, there a MUCH better platforms than the e92. As a car guy, however, I bought my car based on how much I enjoy it. The way I see it, I spend MOST of my time in the car not racing people, so while it is fun to beat people, I need to enjoy the car when its just me the rest of the time. Go with whatever car makes you feel that way. |

Torque is not really an issue on the E9X platform with the short gears. People seem to ignore or are uninformed about gear multiplication and just focus in on Engine torque.
So people complained about lack of torque from the S65 and the answer was the S55. Then they complained about traction. Can't have your cake and eat it too. Anyone feel like posting up a video of Jeremy Clarkson chewing up tires trying to get around a track in a C63?

At what point is enough, enough? W. T. F. are you going to do with 600tq, on the street or track? Does it make any sense? I guess I just don't understand 'modern' cars.
I had a C6. The torque was unbelievable neck-snapping awesomeness on the LS3 engine! And even that is nowhere near 600. It was too much. |
