Spacer question -bolts, hubs, etc.

Hi guys,
I need to put a 5mm spacer in the rear for my 18x11 TE37SL 295/35/18 Nittos to clear the inside of the well.
Is it safe to just put the spacers in with oem bolts? I read about hubs and stuff, and it looks like it's ok without, but want to be sure since I track the car quite hard these days.
Thanks for any experienced input.

Put them in for now, but order 5mm longer bolts to be on the safe side.

Always install the correct extended lug bolts or studs when installing spacers. Saving $50 to $100 is not worth it!

Apex, for instance, sells longer bolts.

Feel free to check out our website for extended bolts. For 5mm spacers we recommend our 30mm lug bolts

What about the opposite? Can extended lug bolts intended for 12mm spacers be used on 5mm spacers? Or is this a no go too?

No sir, the correct length lug bolts must be used for proper installation. If the lug bolts are not long enough, you will not have enough threading to ensure proper/safe installation. If the lug bolts are too long in length, they will come through the backside and will cause damage. A good way to look at it is if you have added a 12mm spacer into the equation, you need a bolt that is now 12mm longer in length to make up for that change in thickness.

Here are some common spacer sizes and the appropriate length lug bolts required:

Stock (no spacers) - 25mm OEM length
3mm Spacers - 28mm (3mm extended from OEM)
5mm Spacers - 30mm (5mm extended from OEM)
12mm Spacers - 38mm (12mm extended from OEM)
15mm Spacers - 40mm (15mm extended from OEM)
18mm Spacers - 43mm (18mm extended from OEM)
20mm Spacers - 45mm (20mm extended from OEM)

Keep in mind that stud kit conversions work a bit differently. 75mm extended studs can accommodate cars with no spacers, all the way up to 12mm spacers. 90mm extended stud kits can accommodate cars with no spacers up to 20mm spacers (although it is recommended for 12mm - 20mm spacers unless you want a lot of stud protruding).

Im on 90mm wheel studs and I like a lot of stud protruding hahaha. Its nice the having the option of running spacers with these wheel studs.
