Another extended warranty question.
I've been searching high and low if people actually buy it. Seems like it's half in each camp. But no threads actually say what goes wrong after. Are these cars still too young?
I'm just happy I don't need to worry about an SMG pump. But the end of the day, what type of things should I be worried about breaking next? Are there any preventative measures to take, other than replacing fluids, battery and plugs? Thanks! |

Could be wrong, but a lot of people are on leases and are not concerned about things going south. I wouldn't own one outside of a warranty. Heard to many horror stories.

I am just coming over from leasing 7 series for the past 5 years. It is a common theme to dump them after the warranty is up unless you can buy a little extra time with an extended warranty. Just look at the cost of upkeep vs other brands. Not as simple as replacing your batter, the whole car needs reprogrammed. Turbos, electrical issues, engine and tranny can run hundreds even thousands to repair. BMW & MB are not like Toyota/Lexus that will essentially run forever with minimal maintenance. I'm pretty tight with my dealer and they have told me that they personally would not own one without a warranty.

I consider $3000 fine since that's only around $300 per month of maintenance. What I'm really wondering what the real weak points of this car is. For example the E60 was the SMG stuff. How about this one? I guess you need to play to play. But honestly I shouldn't be complaining about an M car. I've owned en E46 M3, E60 M5, and all were not that bad. The worst problem I had was the hydralic system on the E60M5 going bad at the end of the warranty which cost around $5k. |
