Running E30 with MHD tunes
Hey guys first post here. Picked up a 2009 135i Auto with 70K miles last week and just couldn't help but jump right into tuning it. I've progressively been working my way onto more aggressive maps, only mod being DCI:
Started with MHD V5 Stage 1 91 Octane map, felt alot stronger midrange, decided to try the 93 Map with an E85/91 mix and the datalogs seemed really good with no timing corrections or AFR issues. I stepped it up to the Stage 1 FMIC map and the following log looks pretty good, what do you guys think? The low pressure pump is dropping to almost 50psi so I'm thinking the car is almost maxed out with the ethanol mix. Keep in mind only mod is DCI w/E30 and 91 Cali gas. Any concerns? Ive logged about 5 runs and they all look about the same as the following one: http://www.datazap.me/u/jvarg98/mhd-...10-11-12-13-23 |

Your LPFP pressure is too low. You want to stay above 55 at minimum, it's crashing out at high rpm. Also, you're not meeting your boost target. HPFP is fine. Ignition timing didn't show up. Neither did AFR. Need a better flash to help your low pressure pump out with the ethanol content, decrease your mix, or get an upgraded pump. Would be helpful to see actual 6 cyl timing and two bank AFR .
Surprised your IATs are so slow to climb. Would love to see a two gear (3-4) log from you

AFR and Timing show up on the log for me, I'll do a couple more pulls today and post it up. So far no timing corrections and afr stays around 12 to 1 but that lpfp has me worried, I'm curious how the car will respond to the OTS e40 map

Much better. LPFP is still dropping pretty low though.

For what it's worth, now that you're meeting boost targets, your wastegate duty cycle is spiking. Dps would help with that.

Any experience with the "wastegate rattle fix" setting on the MHD flasher and how that would affect wastegate duty cycle?
I'm going down a slippery slope here with power goals, first I just wanted a flash tune, now I'm looking into fuel pumps, next I'll be jumping into downpipes, FMIC, and upgraded turbos. |

For what it's worth, anything over 450whp and you'll start having major traction issues on street tires. Stock turbos are good up to around 500/500 with the right mods and 450 is pretty easily obtained with DPs and ethanol. Lack of FMIC will rear its head once you go north of 400 on long pulls. But, if you want to push more than about 14 psi, I really recommend downpipes, takes a lot of strain off the stock snails.

I'm stock and on the E40 tune.
I have a blender pump near me so I put E50 in (have E30, E50 and E85 as options). Granted fuel quality will vary but, If you want to run Ethanol you should do a pump upgrade no matter what. It's borrowed time to not do so. And if nothing else just buy the pump and have it handy to install when the stock takes a dump, and it will. What I've been doing with mine is short shifting. We have such a strong TQ curve that RPM really doesn't help much on stock turbos. After 5.5k they aren't doing much work. Treat it like a BBC and I think you can prolong the inevitable. |

Stock fuel pump also? How's your fuel pressure looking? You're right about those last 500rpm, seems to be where the stock fuel pump falls off so short shifting would help

I'd have to do a good log. I did a couple short crappy ones while back and pressure fell at high RPM. But below 5,000 it looked good/enough.
My plan is to do the stage 2 pump eventually. I just have other more pressing maintenance items to take care of first; tires, brakes, trans flush, walnut blast and then the fuel pump upgrade. |
