Brake job
Hello all. At what mileage did some of you change your pads and rotors? I have 43,500 miles with plenty of life on the pads. However, I'm not sure how much the rotors have left. When I took it in to get an oil change a couple months ago the SA said I was good? There is a small lip on each rotor but I don't know what the spec is? Any insight will be appreciated.
Also, has anyone tackled this job themselves? If so how was it? I changed pads and rotors on the E60 M5 no problem but the caliper looks a lot different on the F10? |

Front rotors are changed every 10K miles?? Your mechanic is either lying to you or someone isn't understanding how pad material is applied unevenly from time to time to the rotor surface. Properly bedding your brakes will take care of that pretty quickly.

First brake job just pads front and rear at 8500 two track days. Second brake job at 11000 3 track days front pads and rotors rear just pads. Now at 19500 miles going in for cracks in front rotors and probably new rotors and pads for rear.
M5 is heavy and eats lots of brakes when driven hard. I'm getting m3 for my track days. |

I'm a little over 8000 miles and I just got my brake pads and front rotors replaced. The dealer tried to get them covered by BMW, but no such luck. There simply was too much wear and tear in so few miles to account for anything but track days.
It is my daily driver, but my commute is only 4 miles. I've taken it to 6 or 7 track days. |

easier said than done^
at the same time, i'm sure there is a cap on how many times bmw is going to eat shit everytime you need brakes because you track the car. and i'm sure in due time bmw is going to stop covering M cars for that exact reason.. people abusing it. |
