Is my pulley or belt on its way out?
So I've been hearing the strangest inconsistent noise lately. It definitely sounds like it might be a belt or pulley (I describe it as a light seagull chirping noise). But it's incredibly inconsistent. Some days i hear it at every stop light, other times I'll only catch it a couple times. I've noticed it only starts as SOON as I dip below 1.5K RPM. And figures, every time I actually park, it stops, so I can't get out and check under the hood.
I asked my mechanic, who just replaced my cracked expansion tank. He said it sounds to him that maybe some coolant made its way into one of the pulley bearings. Thoughts? N55 with 58k miles |

I was hearing similar noises around the same mileage. It ended up being my belt. My oil filter housing was leaking oil onto the pulley system making it sound like I had put a chicken coop inside my hood.
Replaced the oil filter housing and threw on a new belt - problem solved. |
