Dream Come True - Now an F10 M5 Owner!

Hi guys,

I've been a lurker here for many years. Since 2000, I've been slowly working my way up the ladder so I could finally realize my dream car. Ever since the E39, I've wanted one of these monsters. I'm happy to report I finally got it done.

Picked up this 2014 Alpine White M5 with Competition Package last week. Car had 17,000 miles on it and is a Certified Pre-Owned car until April of 2020.

Sadly, the car is in the dealer's care now for a new mechatronics unit which is on backorder for God knows how long. But I'm patient.

Initial thoughts are very positive. The car is an absolute BEAST. It's everything I hoped it would be. Feature list is in my signature.

I'd love to do an exhaust on the car; I feel like even the ZCP exhaust is a little tame. And I would like to shut off the Active Sound Design crap. I don't care for that at all. It's a shame pipes for this car are so astonishingly expensive.

The numbers were decent, I think. $71,000 plus T&F. Did a 75 month loan at 2.25%. Brutal term, but low rate, considering the term. Kept me under $1000/mo. Overpaying whenever possible.

So here she is; the Polar Express

Wow, great car. With a 75 month loan please make sure you leave money for repairs because the car will be out of warranty and "M" stand for money when it comes to items that need fixing. Have a great time driving it!

CPO coverage ends April 2020, and I don't intend on keeping the car past that. I've seen friends suffer terribly with out-of-warranty M cars. Perhaps I'll go to the new M5 at that point.

Congrats bro. Smart move going with an LCI.

I highly recommend getting yourself some Cool Carbon front brake pads, you will have way less dust and equal or greater stopping power than stock pads. Also get your car coded by V12 (Richard), makes a world of difference.

As it turns out, the original owner already performed a ton of coding. But I don't know the full list. Might have the dealer to a software update while it's in there then reach out to Richard to code to my specs.

This car has the non-US steering wheel stock with the high beam assist button on it. So I intend to use that bonus

You're right about the dust. HOLY CRAP it's unreal. So I'll look at those pads today. Thanks for the tip!

Congrats!! I agree, good choice on an LCI. Check the oil occasionally to see where you're at in the oil consumption saga. Its normal to burn a qt or 2 b/w changes from my research (I'm lucky I dont burn any, knock on wood).

All personal preferences, but: not feeling the black roof, look into the center rear CF diffuser (completes the rear bumper look IMO), never liked the CP wheels.

We'll see how my engine eats oil. Too early to tell. But I'll likely keep a quart or two in the trunk.

The center CF diffuser is on my list.

I'm mixed on the roof as well. I kinda want to do a Frozen White wrap on the entire car, perhaps.

The 601M wheels are okay. I left a 535i M-Sport behind for this car, and the wheels on that car are a close resemblance to the non-CP M5 wheels, I'm okay with something a little different. Ideally, a set of Vossens are in my future.

That's a current mystery. I verified the exhaust itself is ZCP (pipes are 3" diameter) but I imagine somewhere along the line the tips were swapped by someone. I'd really prefer the black tips.

Welcome to the M club F10. You will enjoy your car more and more as you drive that beast! Start you off get the brake pads as what dave rpi said. And Sprint Booster to get that boost lag out of the pedal.

GL!

I researched into this and its not for sure, but look at the number of dimples on the mufflers. CP mufflers should have 1 or 2 dimples, non-CP has 3 dimples on each can. Again not 100% sure....just looked at pictures and read a few threads about it. If you dont mind checking, it would help to clarify.

edit: also, AFAIK, even non-CP exhaust is 3"....only the mufflers are slightly different.

I saw conflicting information on the dimples. I saw pictures from old threads on this board where some CP mufflers had 3, 2, 1 dimples.

If they're both 3", then I'm not sure what I have. I know previous owner had a full exhaust system on the car (all the bolts have been turned). Could he have swapped the entire system with a buddy's car? Sure, I suppose. But these tips have signs they were removed. ::shrug:: the car is in the shop now and I've asked them to verify the parts. I can't find a concrete answer on my own.

Be careful and read the fine print. The CPO does not cover everything the Original 4/50 Warranty does. I have a friend who spent $1000's for repairs on a CPO E60 M5.

Agreed. Factory warranty until 4/2018. I'll worry about that when I get there. But CPO is arguably still better than any aftermarket warranty.
