Where can I get the best price on N54 turbos?
My 2009 135i with 119,000 miles went into limp mode after I had the HPFP replaced (under warranty) and brand new fuel injectors installed. I took it back to the stealership and they pulled the dreaded 30FF code........Low Boost pressure. BMW is telling me my turbos need to be replaced! Fuck me!! Where else can I get a good price on the turbos? Any particular brand besides OEM BMW?

I would look into upgrading to Pure Turbos if you are going to replace them anyway. They give you some money towards the new ones if you give them the core.

Its the dealership? I'm sure they wouldn't lead me down the path to purchasing something I didn't need......(sarcasm) All I know is that's what they told me. The car continues to go into "Limp mode" whenever I push it past a certain RPM. The car does have 119,000 miles on it. I only wish this happened while I had under 82,000 miles. It would of been covered under that extended warranty campaign.

I guess I'll start purchasing parts little by little so it's not as hard on my wallet. If anyone knows a place to get the best price on 135i N54 turbos, let me know. I'm sure I'll need a parts kit as well for both turbos.

If I didn't love the car so much I'd get rid of it.....

30ff can be from a boost leak in your system also. At 120k, it's a good chance it's the turbos, but this is a pricey job and I would be 100% sure. For new turbos your looking at 800ish each. Take it from the forum. Save a little bit more and just upgrade them while they're off.

While their Stage 2 set is $3,900 (+$240 for install kit): http://www.pureturbos.com/store/bmw-...e-stage-2.html That's almost a $2.5K difference. Are there cheaper options to do a reliable upgrade? Thanks. Karl.

I think you pray at the alter to the gods of power! But back to the OP's question, Turner seems to have pretty good prices. Their price (after core return) is $1,200:
I wonder are they re-manufactured? How many hours of labor is it to install? Decent independent shops in my area typically charge $150/hr. Dealers charge $200+/hr... Karl.

Turner had the best price I've seen. I just did turbos as well and went with FCP Euro. They have a lifetime warranty and it was only about $150 more after discount. Sure, the labor will suck but if they die in the future the parts should be free according to their lifetime guarantee policy. And they were legit BMW turbos; they drop shipped from a dealer.

Go with VTT OEM Replacements or their Stage 1 option.
ECS also has a full kit that does not have a core charge for cheap. You have options, budget another 17 hours of labor for the install and you may want to change the waterpump/t-stat while its being done since those are removed anyway. Also while you are doing all this, get inlets installed lol. I got all mine done together in 2 days for $1400 |

To my knowledge the OEM turbo design has not been revised by BMW over the years to fix the common wastegate problem though? You may end up forking out for expensive labour again if the OEM turbos fail prematurely (but at least you get the turbos for free from FCP). 120,000 miles is a fair lifespan though for the OP. Hexon RR600 and RR700 turbos are another economical option worth considering. I've seen good results and reliability so far.

But that includes $339 core charges, so $1,330 net. Karl.

Are those Pure Turbos remanufactured? The set for $1690.00? Is there anything special about them? Because they charge you an additional core charge of $600.00 up front? Why would I do that if I could buy BMW OEM Turbos for $840.00 each with NO core charge?
