Thoughts?

PSS is WAY better for our cars

DW have the softest sidewall, I can't believe they're in a max category.

They feel super mushy on turn in and transition.

I agree - I recently made the transition from PSS to Conti after ~50k miles on PSS. Frankly, the Contis scare me - car doesn't feel planted at all through corners. Might be partly psychological though.

I run DW strictly as a DD tire and I love it. I don't autox, track, or HPDE. from a DD perspective, they're fantastic. In the Texas heat I feel like they're planted and grippy. Alternatively, in the rain, I have confidence in them for wet grip.

Its a good tire and cheaper, but I don't like them as much. I have had Conti DW on my 99M3 and my 08 535xi and PSS on my 08 535xi and my 08 M3. But honestly, I don't think PSS are that great, either and would consider something else.

Might help us if you explain your driving style, any mods to the car, and requirements/expectations you have for things like price, ride comfort, wet traction, etc.

The gap between the DW and PSS is quite small for a daily driver.

Definitely need more information on what you plan on doing with the tires.

I have Conti Extreme Contact DW on my VW right now. The softer sidewalls with a grippy compound is great for daily driving. It sucks up bumps yet still has good grip in dry or in the wet.

I ran PSS before on the M3. The PSS has stiffer sidewalls for a stiffer ride. The tire compound also has more grip so it inspires more confidence in cornering.

Both of these are max performance tires. They'd both be fine for daily street driving. I would not suggest them for track use, they overheat and get greasy quickly. The PSS would be a better buy if you wanted something more performance oriented. The DW is more comfortable and cheaper but has less overall grip and less road feel.

I currently run Yokohama AD08R on the M3 as I do occasional track days and appreciate the grip and stiff sidewalls.

Mods in sig - so running with some extra power beyond stock.

Typical driving is mundane - stuck in stop-and-go traffic like everyone else in West LA.

Beyond that, occasionally tracking, + canyon driving on the weekends, etc.

The goal for now is the scrub the Contis ASAP and then switch to 255/275 PSS. I might warm up to the Contis with time, however. The car just feels - very different.

I had the DWs about 3 years ago and had continual balance issues with them. I had roadforce balanced multiple times at different places, but 2 of the tires (one front, one rear) could not be bought below 25lb on the machine (insane levels -- one was 28 the other 32). Unfortunately, my car came with these tires (I bought it when it was 2 years old, CPO in fact from a BMW dealer) that the prior owner installed, and since I wasn't the original owner, Conti said "too bad" even though they had less than 2000 miles on them and were purchased 5 months prior. BMWNA also said too bad, CPO or not. My local dealer said to take it up with the selling dealer (600 mi away), but that went nowhere quickly. If I had bought the car from my local dealer, they would have covered it.

I bought the PSS like I've had on the M5 for many years, and all of them roadforce balanced out to less than 5lbs (numbers were like 2, 2, 3, 1). Amazing, once again. Michelin puts a lot of effort into properly manufacturing high end tires, and the result is excellent uniformity in all three domains: mass, stiffness, geometric. I've had it dealing with various tire companies over the past 40+ years of driving, but I've had consistently excellent results with Michelin tires (and high end BF Goodrich tires -- Rival, R1).

I've had Continental DW's on my last two BMW's and liked them. They are comfortable since they have a softer sidewall and can absorb bumps. But they do feel "floaty" at higher speeds - I was at a track day last year and found it un-nerving to be going down a straightaway at close to 200kph and feel that slight instability. Even at highway speeds they can feel loose. I switched to Michelin PS2 last week and am happier with the stiffer sidewall. Would have gone with PSS but they weren't available in the sizes I wanted.

I've been using the DW's for almost 3 years now and they've yet to fail me. I can only compare to the PS2 which has a much lower tread ware rating and doesn't perform nearly as well in the rain.
The sidewall is a little softer, but I push my car pretty hard and I can still easily tell when the rear end is on the verge of breaking loose. It's been great for track days, and daily driving. I live in WA where it's almost always raining so I completely stand by these tires in the rain. I even got caught out in snow once, and I was able to get home safely on them.

As I said I can't speak for the PSS, since I've only been on the PS2, but I just priced out a set with my wheel specs and it came out to 1,127. I can usually replace all 4 corners with DW's for just under 900. Track day runs me about 225 so just price alone gets me an extra track day. I'll have to try out the PSS, but after 3 years of tracking/dailying on the DW's I have no regrets and would purchase them again.

My 2 cents.

Have had DW's as well, was not a fan. They did improve significantly when worn about halfway down. But they wore slowly enough that there was a long time when they were squishy squeaky messes compared to new PSS and it's not as if the PSS is super aggressive so that's saying something

In that case, I suspect you won't notice a huge difference. The PSS is marginally better when driven very hard, but you will pay extra for it.

My stock E90 on AD08R tires (next class up from the PSS) can still break traction pretty easily with enough throttle. I guess the AD08R helped a little bit, but the motor revs up so fast and has such a flat torque curve that I would really need something even stickier and maybe even wider.
