500 mile road trip with worn PS2s

I need to take a road trip from NYC to D.C. next week. RT that's approx 500 miles.

My current PS2s on stock 19's are close to treadwear bars. Assuming weather holds up (e.g. no rain), will I make it back in one piece?

Thoughts?

On a side note, I am planning to replace with PSS, but I know the rears are on backorder through end of Oct.

Thanks in advance.

Tires are a safety item and the only thing keeping the car on the road. They also impact your braking distances and handling (think emergency maneuvers). I would not be taking chances on tires that are very worn down.

Think of it this way...the only thing holding your ass on the road is approx one foot of rubber times four...Do you really want to bet your life on deeply worn tires? Chances are you'll make it, but each time you spin the chamber on the gun and pull the trigger (think Russian roulette) might increase the time something happens. I've learned to stop putting myself (and others) at risk just to save time, $$$, or whatever other rationale I use to tell myself.
Whatever you do, good luck!

You guys are being sissies. The op said he was close to the wear bars. Not even through them. No cause for panic. No need to rush out and buy new tires for a 500 mile trip.

I agree, close to wear bars is fine, at or through the wear bars is a whole other story.

probably not the end of the world unless you have an alignment issue that is causing uneven or accelerated wear. if they are a smidge above the wear bars, i wouldn't worry about it.

Thats for the feedback. Wanted to let everyone know that i didnt die, contrary to a few opinions.
In fact I'm pretty impressed with the way the PS2s held up. After the 500 mile trip i barely measured any wear on the tires. Still have a few hairs left before i hit tread bars.
Now just need to find a good spot to leave some deep tread marks before i swap them out.
Cheers
