Buy a 2011 M3 Sedan or wait for 2018 F20 340?

I know its hard to say since the F20 isn't out yet but do you think the F20 will be comparable in overall performance of the 2011 E90 sedan w/competition package? Anyone here test drive the current 340 w/ Track Handling package to give an evaluation to compare to a E90 or E92?

You should never compare a M to a reg 3 series . Let alone a V8 N/A to a i6 FI

I recently drove a new loaner 340i; wonderful sedan. Feels nothing like an E90 M3 ZCP.

It's probably like comparing a E46 M3 to a E92 335i. Sure in a straight line they're probably even, but the driving experience will be vastly different.

Even if someone offered me a brand new 435i I wouldn't trade my e92 for it. But if you're looking for a daily then it makes sense.

I think OP means the G20 3er?

F20 (1er) has been out for a while already, but only available on the other side of the pond.

With that said, its a safe bet that the E90 M3 would have superior driving characteristics to the G20 non-M, track pack or not.

Elvis, not having my M because of the track capability myself - so much to enjoy even off track - but as you seem to be after track handling, why even ask bud? The M cars is the best BMW make for handling. That not good enough going for a standard series certainly won't do the job for you. Even a few years later design will not target previous M performance.

Pointless comparison. If you have to ask, go with the F20.

That's another thing ...Sound alone don't makes us faster and better , of course I agree our cars with the high rev. V8 sound like a mechanical orchestra and that's really fantastic !
But....

Even when we are fan-boys of the S65...We need to face the truth in front of us !

The Turbo-S sounds pretty bad as well , but *holy mother of God* ..This car blowed my mind in terms of performance !
0-60 ? In launch => 2.5 sec all day long ! Don't forget that's Veyron performance !

I was passenger in one and in heavy rain , and honestly it scared the shit out of me , but with the AWD it drove like it was on rails !
Actually the Turbo-S beats the shit out of any ///M car , just for pleasure and without effort ..All day long , while it sounds like shit !
After my ///M (don't know when) the Turbo-S is the nr:1 on my list ....even when it sounds like shit !

The sound we hear inside the cabin is also not fake.
Another point to the M3!

I would only go with the 2018 F20 340 if it has an M button, AND the M Sport Package AND various ///m badges that I could display on the car...

@OP: Others have given you good advice. Take the M3 and you won't regret the decision, but I'd go with neither given my current situation.

As much as I have no love for turdbros, I would take a F85 BMW X5 M over any new models currently sold by BMW just to make the point that older is the new and better to me for what it's worth...if anything.

As an aside, recently I was walking a showroom while waiting on my M3 to have routine maintenance completed when the general sales manager walked up, pointed to an M5 and asked "Are you ready to upgrade?" I turned and said "To you this car is an upgrade for me. To BMWAG this car would be an upgrade for me. To me, this car isn't even making the standard for what I consider to be the ///M brand."
He didn't miss a beat immediately pointing to a sumptuous i8 setting next to the M5.
I said "Nope. I'd go with a Mercedes before the i8 and I dislike MB cars because MB builds what they want to try to sell rather than what people want...which is what BMW has been doing of late."
He smiled and said "They'll figure it out for you."
I have my doubts.
