Question for those with 21" wheels and also tuned

What tires are you guys running on 21" wheels for optimum performance and traction, especially with any kind of tune or mods done? What tires would you guys recommend? Tire options are limited it seems.

I have Michelins in 305/25 on Dinan stag 2. No traction under 50 deg c....even at high speeds, can be scary

Running Vredesteins (305/265) on a Stage 1 tune. Great looking tires that perform exceptionally well. I've had MPSS and Pirelli's in the past and this tire works much better IMO.

Agreed regarding Vredestein Ultrac Vorti R. 265/305 combo on 21". Better grip than MPSS. Don't last as long as they're 160 tread wear compared to 300 on the MPSS, but that's also why they've got more grip. I get 20k miles out of my fronts and 10k miles out of my rears. They handle the twisties extremely well also, and are quiet and smooth like the MPSS.

You are right, low tread wear mean softer compound that sticks better but wears faster. I need to look into these Vredestein, not that familiar with them.

Just make sure you do the Ultrac Vorti R version. The normal Vorti aren't anywhere near the same.

Jose, have you ever tried the Michelin cup 2's? I think those are suppose to be pretty decent too. Did you get the Vredesteins locally?

I have not tried the Mich Cup 2's. I bought the tires through Velos Designwerks / Wheels in Miami although they sourced them elsewhere if I recall correctly.

Aesthetically the Vreds are a great looking tire in addition to the performance benefits we've already mentioned.

Running Vredesteins on 21 inch velos on my M6GC. Enzo tuned stacked with JB4, MSR intakes and Downpipes. Love these tires! Had the PSS on my M5 and they were great but they were backorderd in this size for the new car so i went with Vreds and damn glad i did.

6spdterror, nice ride. What are the specs on your wheels? Are you on stock suspension? I have a GC as well, looking to upgrade wheels soon.

In case you're looking at Velos Wheels here are some pix of my car; Omar and the folks at Velos are great to deal with. 21"/KW HAS / Vredesteins

I was running 21" Vorsteiner 3P forged wheels with Pilot Super Sport (265/30/21 & 303/25/21). I was running a stage 3 tune and full bolt on. Traction in optimum weather was good.

Vredestein makes a great tire too and highly recommended by quite a few friends.

So from the responses so far, Vredestein may be worth a try over the PSS. I currently have the PSS on the factory 20's with a tune (now stage I to ease my clutch slippage) and traction issues even in third gear were a problem when I had stage II tune.

Vredestein are the only way to go in 21". Period.

If I wanted more grip in a 20", I would squeeze the Toyo R888 in the 315/30/20 in the back.

Thanks. Im on KW HAS suspension and the wheels are 21x9.5 in the front and 21x11 in the rear. The guys at Velos really know their stuff and service is top notch.
