Future S55 Engine Software Updates for Non-ZCP Cars
I've been wondering how BMW will address future engine software updates for the 2015-2017 civic m3/m4. We know now that the 2018 LCI is going to affect both models, but we don't know how that translates to engine software. My hope is that BMW cleans up the engine mapping for the pre-LCI cars and helps smooth out the stock tune (a la ZCP) without the burbles/power bump. Now I'm not saying BMW should give us the ZCP features, but at least improve the stock tune. I'd like to see better throttle plate/EWG/fueling tuning.
Has the tune actually improved over time and not just had power limited? Does anyone have logs for a 2017 base S55 with the most up to date software? When I ordered my 2016 M3 I didn't have the option of ZCP, and I'd like to keep my current car. I'll probably go with BM3 eventually, but for now I'm just wondering if the base cars will get improved engine software. |

VF-Engineering has a tune that will bring the car in line with the ZCP factory map. This includes not only the moderate power bump and the 'GTS' features but also things like throttle plate control which was said to be improved on the ZCP and in genernal helps with driveability/smoothness and getting the power to the ground. An option for people that don't want to push their cars further than what BMW is already doing.

evolmotorsprt you will be beyond happy once you go BM3 ;
the World's First factory ECU (DME) flash tuning platform for the BMW F series called bootmod3. Up until bootmod3 came into existence there were two popular ways of tuning the BMW F series, using a piggyback device to add boost and sending your ECU (DME) out for a one time flash to a tuner of your choice. With the piggyback the end user has partial control over the boost the car is running but no direct control over any other engine parameters such as ignition timing, lambda targets, fuel pressure targets, torque/load targetting, throttle mapping, valve timing and duration, among others. With the one time flash some tuners were providing the ECU would get reprogrammed on the bench and many of the parameters above would get adjusted. However, if the end user wanted to customize their tune for different modifications, octane levels, go bigger turbos, built motor, datalog how the car was running, to get the most performance out of their car there simply wasn't any way of doing so, until now! I appreciate your recommendations regarding flash tuning, but I'd really like to know about BMW's plans for OEM software. My car has the revised bedplate, but I'm going to wait a while longer before I compromise the warranty. I'm going to drive my car hard and wait to see how the early 2016 revisions hold up on other's cars before throwing caution to the wind. I know I'm a wuss. That's why I'd like to know what's going on with BMW's software updates, and if they are improving the base engine tune.
