Possible Water Pump / Thermostat Symptoms
Hey - I have owned my 2009 BMW 135i (105km) for about 4 months now and after already having to have the turbos replaced I appear to be on to my next issue.
Noticed the other day that engine fan was still running a few seconds after engine shut down even though was driving slow and not hot. Same thing yesterday, it even came on a few minutes after starting up and then I thought it felt a bit sluggish. Pushed it a bit to confirm and a few minutes later I went in to limp mode and a few minutes after that the yellow coolant warning came on so I pulled over to let it cool. When it cooled down a bit the power was back and drove it home. Left it 3 hours to cool down and then started it and engine fan came on full blast instantly. So loud. I have done some researching on here and other places and it sounds like water pump or thermostat issues. Thought I would post in case someone had other thoughts before I go too far down this path. Any comments much appreciated! |

Agree... Water pump.
No time to wait/don't drive further until replaced/fixed it goes quick and with very little notice. In fact you already have more notice than most, including myself, have received

Classic water pump symptoms, and totally agree that your 1 must like you cause it really tried to get your attention rather than just going straight to tow truck mode.
Easy enough to do yourself on a saturday, and lots of vendors selling complete kits.

I just went through the same thing. 2nd wp I've gone through. This time, the radiator cracked along with it. Take care of it asap.

I got no symptoms when mine went at 72K. Car went into limp mode than shut off until the engine cooled down. I was lucky cause it happened 1/2 mile from home. Let it cool and drove it home. had it towed to the dealership.
They do thermostat, WP, antifreeze and tubing. Was about $1300.
