New Exhaust!

But not an MPE

My car just had its inspection service at 38k and 14 months old and they found the rear brackets are cracked and apparently that means a new exhaust at a cost of £2000 plus labour.

Warranty takes care of it but I do wonder how economical these cars will be to run out of warranty.

Ask if you can pay the difference and upgrade to MPE.

How can it be £2000 for a standard? Thought you could get MPE for not much more?

I guess that's the retail price she quoted, retail on the MPE is £4000 not that it matters BMW are paying.

I'm more bothered about the quality of the exhaust doesn't seem great, never had one break before.

The thought had crossed my mind but it's loud enough for me as it is, the MPE looks great with carbon tips though.

should be able to pick up a spare exhaust from plenty of people on here that have fitted an MPE. i for one have a zero miles OEM exhaust sitting in my garage from when i installed the MPE on delivery day. I've not been able to sell it as most are still under warranty. your unfortunate news gives me hope that soon there may be a market for flogging it on. id take £1K happily if anyone reading this thread needs a new exhaust but is out of warranty.

Surely it makes better financial sense to reinstall the original exhaust when you sell your M4 on, and then sell your MPE?

Quite shocking about your 14 month old exhaust. And you're quite right about the MPE. Mine has got even louder, and I can see why some people would say it's too much. I think that sometimes.

As I get older the noise at start up even with the stock exhaust annoys a little Mat, I was in the Z4C yesterday and the creamy, buttery smooth engine was a delight, I love the virtually silent step off of that car. (but not the really crap suspension)

I see your point but by the time I sell my m4 the mpe will have 30k on it. How much would a used mpe with that sort of use actually be worth. I doubt it'll be any more than £1k anyway?? It does have the cf tips though so those are £800 alone (new) I suppose.

I reckon it should go for half the retail price. Doesn't matter what the mileage is, who knows it and really what difference does mileage make? The carbon tips make a huge difference to price.
