Storing the spare FOB in the car, a wise idea?

If I lose the key, I can remotely unlock the door and drive it home.

Since the car won't lock when a key is still inside, I thought about making a Faraday cage with aluminum foil.

BTW each FOB is $500. I put a label on the back that says $50 reward with my cell.

Scenario 1: someone breaks into the car, finds the FOB, drives away, strips the car down before you even realize it's missing.

Scenario 2: someone finds your missing FOB. Reverse looks up your address from you phone number. Drives to house, gets in the car, drives away, strips the car down before you even realize it's missing.

AFAIK, used key fobs cannot be reprogrammed for a different car.

Can you program the $50 fobs from eBay to work on a newer car? Who programs the fobs, the dealer?

1- I assumed forum members would be smart enough and it would be obvious that you hide the key in a good location.

2- The number on the back of my FOB is a Google Voice that doesn't link to me in any way. Actually Google search points to a false address.

Bad idea for multiple reasons...

Leave your key at home, or give it to a friend who can come after you if you need him to

Lol. If you are commonly losing keys then you have bigger issues. I keep the second key at home

I've seen instructions on the forum for a DIY FOB programming.

You forgot scenario 3. Someone breaks into the car, finds the FOB, steals the car, sets navi for home destination then opens the garage door using the universal opener. Now thief has access to car and house.

I always have 2 keys with me. I keep the extra key on my house keys. I have always carried 2 keys for my car for the last 30 yrs. Learned it from my dad, I don't lose car keys. But if i do I always have a back up,

FYI, that is just a shell (not a complete remote).

Good OPSEC is to set your home destination to a place near your home like a gas station or other public place.

I usually dont store sensitive locations. I just use my phone beforehand to send a destination within 2 miles then Ill have my route planned from there to my actual destination. I also make it a habit to constantly delete the previous destinations history so no one can get an idea of your "patterns".

I mean I just keep my spare FOB in a safe place in my house. I'm always conscious about not losing my keys, and making sure I always have them with me. I do the following check before I leave ANY place. "Phone, Wallet, Keys" always without fail. it's very rare that I leave the house or a place without checking. and the times I do I typically forget something lol. Go figure.
