What is the resale value of my 2016 M4?
Looks like I will be selling my 2016 M4. Here's my question. Are the BMW M3/4's selling below or above Kelly Blue Book / Edmunds Private Party resale value? And if so by how much +/- ....
I was able to sell my E46 M3 for above KBB value. Here are her stats: 2016 M4 Coupe Mineral White Black Full Merino Leather Driver Ass Plus Executive Pkg Lighting Pkg Manual transmission Adaptive M Susp 19" Black Wheels Pwr Rear Sunshade Sunroof MSRP on above: $79,145 not including tax, title etc... Add ons include: BMW M Perf CF spoiler " M CF Diffuser " M CF hand brake " M CF license frame BMW trunk tray IND: Black Side gills, Black front Grill and side markers in MW I have all the OEM parts which will come with the sale. Plus: Xpel on the entire car except the trunk and rear bumper Black vinyl on the roof Tinted windows Current miles: 12500 Owed her for 15 months Condition: Excellent, no track, No accidents etc, always garaged, non smoker, not a mark on her thanks to the Xpel. KBB and Edmunds are saying just about the same at $62K. Of course that does not include the Xpel and Add ons. Thanks in advance...

I had just been researching prices when buying my F80, so a lot of that data is fresh in my head. You should have no problem getting 62-64. Where I live, it seems the cars that sell easier are the DCT ones.

If anyone knows about these cars selling above or below KBB that would be a big help as I gather data to come up with a fair market value. Cheers...

I can tell you that trade in value is nowhere close to what KBB says...

I have always had two cars. After I sold my Boxster S and E46 M3 which I had at the same time, it just seem nature that I should follow what I love... BMW and Porsches...
My main reason I bought the M4 was I did not want to pay for daily parking at the airport terminal. Our company provides bus service from an employee lot just off the airport property. I did not want to park the P car there and felt the BMW would not garnish as much attention. Well after 20 years of the employee bus,... I think I have paid my dues. So I will be treating myself to what we call in the airline business as "Princess Parking". And the extra money I get from this sale can go towards my next sports car when the time comes...

Yes that is true... When I went to get a trade in value for my wife's MDX at the BMW dealer when she was buying her X5 they came in lower then even CarMax. It is convenient doing it that way but you will take a hit... So yeah, I sold it on my own...

Your best bet is to go to cars.com find all the similar cars to yours in the whole country--and average out the asking price. Now we all have to remember, asking and selling price are 2 different values as we.. |

Thanks for your input... You hit the nail on the head when you said asking... I am looking for information on what people are getting or paying for these cars. When I was selling my E46 my BMW service rep told me that these cars were going for more then KBB... So that is what I am trying for figure out. When you look at Cars.com the range of the asking price is from $69,900 to $55,995... That is a very large range... All of these have less then 20K miles... Looking for some harder facts to narrow the price down... Thanks again... Cheers,

I would think on newer cars, even M cars, that KBB and Edmonds are good starting points whereas on older cars they would not be accurate given they don't take into account the enthusiast crowd that chases after old cars. So start a tad, like $2k, over KBB based on ur xpel and other add ons. See what traffic and offers u get and go lower if no traffic. Ur car may go fast if it clicks with a MT guy. The other polarizing option is the sunroof. Some love it and others won't touch it preferring CF roof. Good luck.
Better yet, sell the Boxster LOL. Off topic but do u regret selling the E46? |

The Boxster I sold several years ago... I do not regret selling the M3. Though it would have been a great track car...

m3> M4 in terms of resale value and looks. Even the last generation the M3 sedan is worth more than the coupe CarMax offered me 53k which was KBB and for your car it says 52k. Now my highest trade in was 54k so I wouldn't be surprised if yours was also 53-54k. But I sold my car for 58,500 which was also the payoff.

I tried to sell my 2016 M4 with very similar options as yours. KBB was about $62-$63K and I listed it for $59K. The offers I have been receiving are insulting so I decided to keep the car. My theory is the ZCP and LCI models are driving down demand for older models. There is also a lot of off-lease cars coming due so that's keeping prices at bay. I think prices should rebound soon. I may try to sell it at a later time. Some dude actually offered me $45K... GTFO!!!

If using Edmunds, don't count on getting the top condition price. Most buyers will look to the middle or avg. condition price. Hard to find a buyer to pay top dollar in a private party sale if buying a CPO at a dealer isn't going to cost much more.
Also not sure there will be much added value for the add-ons unless you find someone looking to buy a car and do the same exact add-ons. They might help sell the car faster but hard to estimate any type of $$$ value for them - any car not just this particular car. You could always remove them (well, except for Xpel, tint and vinyl on roof) and sell them separately.

Thanks for your helpful insight... Yes I love when someone wants to buy something for nothing... I just ignore people like that. Good news is I do not need to sell it. So if it would stay on the market for months... well then so be it. I still enjoy driving it.... Quote:
Well if a 15 month old car which is almost completely covered in what my wife calls bubble wrap is not an example of excellent condition... Then I am not sure what is... The buyer always looks for the lowest condition because they want to pay as little as possible... And the seller always think his item is at the top end... That is why I try to do my homework and be reasonable to find what the market will bear. I agree the add ons do not hold their value, but if I was a buyer, and I liked the add ons, I would personally pay a percentage more to get the car that had them... This is also why I do not go hog wild with them... Thanks for your input! Quote:
I am not surprised... I understand they have to make money on the flip side but some times they are just to greedy IMHO... Thanks for chiming in...

FYI, the add ons, while nice for the next owner, will not yield a significant premium. Think 10-20% of what you paid.

Driver Ass definitely takes away from the value. IMO at least - it doesn't jive with the rest of the car. It's a sports car that is optioned with MT. So it's about controlling it yourself and being involved. Driver Ass is just about the opposite of that.
Anyways, GLWS.

I can get you auction numbers. That might help for fair trade in value. Not sure how helpful it would be for private sale.
Edit: They are averaging $57300 ($54,700 - $59,900 range) at dealer auctions with the same mileage that you have. Historical Average Past 30 Days $57,600 13,486 mi 6 Months Ago $63,100 9,082 mi Last Year $67,000 969 mi Last edited by supsup; 05-19-2017 at 12:58 PM.. |
