do you think the DCT was re-tested by the EPA for fuel econ?

all around (in reviews) I see the DCT is supposed to or does get better fuel econ yet people say it's got the same EPA fuel econ and GG tax.

Makes me wonder if BMW or the EPA didn't bother to re-test.

I mean EPA has nothing to gain if the DCT gets better econ and they re-test it they lose GG tax.

Not that I can do anything about it can't fight city hall but it would be nice if the DCT had some indication of it being re-tested even if it was a slightly higher HW rating.

DCT may change the mpg, but not that much. The M3 would have to get an 'unadjusted mpg' of 22.5 to get the gg tax dropped. If it hit 21.5, it would only go down by $300. Big woop. Note, there is a formula to compute the 'unadjusted mpg', it isn't a straight value. Wikipedia has the info on that I think.

What really sucks about the gg tax is that things like the hummer, trucks, etc. are excluded from it due to weight. Our wonderful idiotic government at work (and I mean that all-inclusively).

I don't know this for a fact, but I don't think it was retested.

Probably because it's worse, no? Is it? Curious too.

I suspect that DCT cars only appear to have better fuel economy because they are tested using the leanest auto programme which which changes up gears very early and I would think that it is not in practice used that much by M drivers in normal usage.

DCT auto modes are very conservative, it should help MPG not hurt it. Try shifting manually and beat the computers shift points for fuel economy. I have a feeling the computer wold win everytime.

The DCT is tested separately. It just happens to get approximately the same mileage.

If you average out the improvement reported on bmw.de for DCT you get the following:
((9.2/9)+(17.9/17)+(12.4/11.9))/3 = 1.04. So 14/20 becomes 14.54->15/20.78->21. Of course EPA cycle improvement may be less or more.

Do we get any money back?? Probably not since it is about the same.
