Tall owners: do you miss the adjustable thigh support?

I noticed the M3's seats do not have the thigh extension feature like the M-sports seats (why)?

For long legged folks (I'm 6'4) do you have enough support under your hamstrings for long distance driving?

I can't think of a better answer, so I'll just reiterate my original one:

"The M seats are probably kept simple to make them as light as possible, though that is just a guess on my part."

I'm also 6' 4" and find the seats to be very comfortable. Now, I've only driven the car for a stretch of about four or five hours at once, so I'm not sure how that coincides with your definition of "long distance".

I feel compelled to add this though: I don't adjust my seats in such a way that my legs even come into contact with the whole seat bottom to begin with. So thigh supports as a feature are lost on me. Even in my E46 and E93, I didn't use the thigh supports. Just to see what I might be missing, I've tried a number of times over the years to adjust the seat in such a way where my thighs come in contact with the entire length of the seat bottom, but it always feels forced or artificial. I suppose I simply prefer to have the freedom to move my legs around unencumbered by the resistance that having the bottom of the seat against them would cause.

I am also 6' 4" and have wished the M4 had the optional pull out thigh support for long and medium length trips from time-to-time (not to mention ability to adjust seat bottom / thigh bolsters). It's not awful without, but IMO would be better with for street driving. Overall, the seats are what I like least about the car. That said, no intent to get rid of the car due to the seats - just wish they were a little more to my preferences.

I do miss the seats in my E92 M3, specifically being able to slide in and out the thigh supports. If there is anything about the new seats I dislike it would be the angle of the headrest, awkward with a helmet on, and the squeel of the lit up M badge.

Just under 6'4".

I like the thigh adjusters in my M5 and Z4M coupe, but I can't say I have thought about or missed them much in the F80.

I'm 6'4" and even with the support my legs are too long and they don't support the thighs, so I don't miss it

Does 6'1&1/2 count? My X5 50i has comfort seats, and I don't have the seat extended, so I don't miss it in my F80 ZCP

6ft 2 here and never use them in any BMW, I find that they feel awkward, and come out too far towards your knees.

Not only that, cars with them always end up with them as dust, food, crumb collectors.

I'm not tall (5' 9") but I have long legs for my torso, and I prefer to have the additional thigh support that I have in my Z4 M Roadster and my wife's 335is Coupe. It actually hasn't been a problem for me though, and I've had a few all-day driving stints, I just prefer the feel of that extended thigh support.

FWIW I have the vert seats with the thigh extensions and love that - it's become kind of a requirement over the last 10 years; when I drive cars without it, it drives me nuts. 6'2" but 36" inseam so I have long legs.

I get they have to make the cars as light as possible but, come on, 99.99% of people can't drive for shit on a track or never even go and when they do it's not to compete - it's not like a few hundred lbs helps them.

For me, things like seats should be configurable options like on Porsche and AMG ... but the truth is, BMW probably focus-grouped it and found that people will ride in discomfort for their aspirations anyway, so the option didn't make sense.

I did miss it (I am 6/2" - although it's people with long inseams who I would imagine would have more issues with it regardless of height) - not enough to deter me from buying, although what was FAR more annoying to me was the left side thigh bolster which dug into my left thigh. If I bought another M3/4, my first stop would be to an upholsterer to have the steel bar in the bolster removed. Someone else did that, and it made the seat far more comfortable without causing the foam to collapse.

The M4 convertible seats are best. No annoying thigh-digger and the thigh extension is still there. Plenty sporty/comfortable as well.

Moving from a 5er, I miss it....along with the ventilated seats. If I could choose, I'd rather the thigh support. I'm a big boy (6'4", 230lbs)....on the longer drives it would be nice.

Cheers,

Exactly what Rick said. I'm 6'3" with minor lumbar disc disease, and after about two hours of driving I find myself fidgeting around trying to get comfortable. The extending thigh support would be a desirable feature, but, hey, it's not your daddy's 750!
