Best Tunes & Flash?

Hey Y'all.

I understand we gotta "Pay to Play," but how many of you guys ended up paying with a blown engine?

What tuner is the safest route to go besides Dinan when it comes to reliability + Power?

How many of y'all were denied warranty claims because of the tune and how many of y'all were approved?

Much appreciated for y'alls opinion and inputs.

The software is really pretty decent, the hardware is where real improvements can be made, i.e. suspension parts, tires, etc, to keep the car better planted on the road. Just my two cents for money better spent.

VF and BM3 tend to be the two popular tune options on here. If you run a search on those there are a lot of great discussions on both of them

ESS or Bootmod3 would be our choices. We've seen pretty much all tunes in action on the dyno and these produce the most consistent results.

Can you pm me the price for a BM3 Installation?

Does your shop also do GTS DCT Flash?

Yes, we are a Bootmod3 flashing facility and can provide GTS DCT flashes, as well as dyno in-house.

PM incoming.

  • Dinan if you want their warranty as a safety net, but keep in mind that they wont cover you either if you have non-factory or non-Dinan hardware. Their warranty covers their products the same way that the factory BMW warranty covers factory BMW products.

  • JB4 if you don't feel comfortable having your ECU unlocked for an actual flash tune. It's the best of the piggy-back options, if for no other reason that it's the most common.

  • BM3 or HEX Tuning if you understand why flash tuning is the better option!

  • BM3 has the cool factor if you're looking for a tune that also offers data-logging and custom tuning options, and
  • HEX Tuning if you are looking for the most consistent option with the best power on pump fuel.
I still haven't seen a better "set it and forget it" option for the S55 and I've driven or run against nearly every other option available.

A friend works at bmw service and he says a few blown motor M's come thru and that they are all from the piggybacks not a flash...he told me to becareful with mine but I'm somewhat responsible lol. I wonder how crazy you need to drive to blow one anyways. Someone on here was from a miss shift but others just driving hard and kaboom? tragic!

If you care about the warranty so much you just gotta pay dinan prices and your good to go. If bmw doesn't cover a blown motor, someone on here got dinan to pay!

Nicer harness and better installation instructions, that's for sure. I'm just not sure whats more advanced about it but you're more than welcome to elaborate since I've only driven a car with it installed but haven't had one myself.

Blown motors are more rare than spun crank hubs, and spun crank hubs are still less than 1/1000. (gross estimation obviously, but you get the point)

If warranty is a concern the best bet is to leave your motor stock and have fun with suspension and tires. If someone wants to race, have them follow you through the twisties!

BM3 if going flash tune. All tunes are really safe for your motor unless you do something really dumb but even then the ECU saves the day in most cases. Crank hub seems highly uncommon given the number of S55 cars out there these days.
