It looks like Dinan came out with an at home flash kit (DIY).
Uses the Dinan stage2 kit (+55 HP & 74 torque) comes with cables and interface and can flash between tuned and stock. It cost a bit more than through a dealer or Indy but no shop cost to install I guess. Looks like it is locked to the VIN(?) https://www.dinancars.com/product/d9...ries&mid=1139/

For sure and can remove the tune if taking to the dealer which is nice.

Yes but allows you to test/replicate the problem without the tune so they can't just blame it on a tune.

Looks like I'll be making a call to Dinan on Monday. I already have the Stage 2 flash. Wonder if I can just get the cables. When you look at how much more the DYI kit costs, it's not that unreasonable. The S2 tune is $1003.50. The DYI kit is $1198.50. So it's only $195 more.

Why not go with DME unlock and Mhd? Just curious if cost is a factor. Don't get me wrong, Dinan is great. Had it in my E46 330Ci back years ago Wedge is in Portland for DME unlock |

Sounds convenient but as per usual with Dinan, also sounds expensive. My Dinan authorized dealer is only a half hour away from me so if I need a reflash, it's not a big deal. I've already given Dinan enough of my money and they will get no more from me. lol

The place I got my Dinan tune done is about 30 minutes away from me too depending on traffic. It can actually be as much as 45 minutes to an hour if traffic is bad enough. But then again, they're not that far from the dealership too so I have to go that way regardless. The indie shop said I can have a reflash done if needed at any time without being charged. I think they charged $75 when I had the flash done. I just like the convenience of having equipment to do this type of stuff in the comfort of my home. I spent a ton of money getting a professional level scan tool software a few years ago when I was doing a lot of wrenching on both my cars and relatives/friends. |

My place won't charge me a fee either since I already paid it once. I think it was $65. I may complain about the money but I'm happy with the tune. Would do it again.

Dinan Tune
Quote:
I fully understand. Dinan was the first tune I looked at but after reading people with MHD tunes, nobody has complained. Since my N55 135is needed a unlock, I wanted to meet the challenge of removing the DME. Luckily my back neighbor agreed to help me do it. We took our time and took lots of pics from my cell phone in case we forget. It took us about 75 minutes taking our time. If you are mechanically incline, piece of cake. As with Dinan, I was going over the cost if you want a Stage 2, $5000-7000.....WOW I have to save $ with my 1er bc I am planning to get another Toy after selling my E92 M3......LOL |

On waiting for the MHD, I had concerns about any potential problems from being the first batch of customers having their DMEs unlocked. Following their progression with figuring the unlock out, they were running into problems and didn't want to be one of the first dealing with the growing pains. I'm glad it looks like MHD has it all figured out as it's great to have more choices out there. But there's something to be said about a company which has been doing BMW tuning for years and the fact you can pretty much guarantee no issues with any of their products being installed in your car. You can't say the same for other popular tuning products. |

You're paying $195 extra to have the capability of doing it yourself. Considering the level of R&D that Dinan invests in and the coverage of their products, the price seems completely fair to me.
As far as MHD and Cobb go, you couldn't pay me to use either one on my car. Dinan has been tuning BMWs for longer than most people on this forum have been alive. MHD doesn't have their own website, and their box along with all others have only been around since shortly after BMW introduced the N54 and people realized it's tuning potential. |

I thought there were some companies in the USA that did remote flashing like Giac. ?
This Dinan thing looks a little bit like a blue JB3 to me. ???
