Anyone else get flashed with high beams from oncoming drivers?
I always only have my low beam on. I mean it's common sense, but numerous times I've had the opposite approaching vehicle turn on their high beam when they were like 100 ft away from me. I knew they thought I had the high beam on, but I didn't. Anyone else have this annoying experience? Just curious lol!

Yes, it happens. I just give the quick blip of high beam to show them the error of their ways.

Not that I recall. However some drivers flash high beams (instead of the traditional signal of turning lights on and off) to alert you that a LEO is ahead.

Yep, wish everyone participated in alerting LEO. When I was in Austria everyone would flash high beams when LEO was around. And everyone obeys the left lane unlike here where I have to change 3 lanes to pass someone.

In NZ its customary to flash high-beams to alert about a LEO - never heard of turning the lights on and off. I do that to alert someone to the fact they don't have their lights on.

That's the way I grew up knowing it. Years ago, high beams were activated by a button on the floor you activated with your left foot when the headlights were on. Rarely used except when high beams needed or to alert someone else coming at you that their high beams were on. During the day in particular, you alerted people by turning lights on and off. Nowadays that high beams are usually controlled on a stalk and daytime running lights are typical, I'd guess people just do whatever they are used to so someone flashing high beams can mean any type of alert.

I’m contribution to this thread, I have a horrific story to share as welll.
One time this guy in front of me slowed down all of a sudden and turned. No blinker, nothing!!! Just total disregard for me as a BMW driver. He was also driving a much less expensive car. Poor people make me so mad!!! |

Could be a couple things.
1) to alert you of law enforcement/speed traps 2) trying to signal you 3) they think you have your high beams on Or there could legitimately be an issue with your headlight being aimed properly. Had this happen in my old 335 wondering why I'm always being flashed turns out one of my headlights were misaligned. |

All the time, just drove back from San Diego from the casino and I always have my auto high beams on and I coded so that my day time running light are painfully bright too.
But yeah, the auto beam doesn't seem like it reacts fast enough in my car. At first I felt bad and now Im just used to it, it's just how bmw engineered it, to be up in they're face. I also Use the auto high beam on the fwy too haha. But I can never be sure, if it really does beam it on they're face, I hope not.

I thought I was going pretty fast, doing 85mph in a 35mph zone in a few blocks span after exiting the fwy and since I was heading towards my beloved Auto Talent, but I guess he was heading there too. Well, My tint was semi blacked out and he didn't get a good look at me, but once I parked outside at Auto Talent, he drove in with his Ferrari, I think it's was the sedan one. But yeah, he got out of his car and told one of my buddy that works there, that my car itself was slow. I hid didn't want him to see me, when he had two Ferrari parked there, which one of his Ferrari was over a mil haha, anyways the story to all of this, even if you drive fast, it probably ant fast enough. :

Honestly, it's best to just ignore such taunts. Justice would have been if there was a cop there and he blows by you only to be instantly pulled over and written a huge fine/if not vehicle impoundment/criminal charges on his way to his beloved auto meet. Then he might think twice about being such a jackass (Probably not, driving a 1M+ car lol). I do myself speed quite excessively at times, if you own one of these cars we all do. It's the risk we take. I also get annoyed at people bogging down the left lane going slow, but at the end of the day it's not worth tailgating or getting into a wreck or worse shot over. You were already going excessively fast going over double the posted speed limit. Not many other regular drivers are maintaining those speeds. This isn't you going 85-90mph and someone going slow in the left lane, this would be the equivalent of you going 140mph+ on the highway and expecting everyone to move over. It's reckless period. No reason to hide or feel ashamed. Let him blow you a bunch of shit over your car being "slow" because you chose not to be an idiot going 100+mph on a non highway road. I would care less what he thought of me despite what he drives. Just use good judgment, and when in doubt, just take it to the track Last edited by IDBGOD; 09-25-2017 at 10:40 AM.. |

I'm not advocating excessive speeds on public roads, but when you don't move over, you are making the situation more unsafe. |
