TINT ?
Ive had my windows tinted for a while but ever since I was able to roll them down, Ive had vertical scratches along both windows. I spoke to the shop and they claimed that this happens to alot of cars and no matter how many times, its redone, it will get scratched again. Anyone have this problem??

I think if it doesn't scratch your windows before the tint...it shouldn't scratch it afterwards...

the thing that kills me is that they fold in the rubber at the bottom of the window and they stab a pick to pull it out when its dry... if you ask me, thats whats scratched the window.... they said i could redo the front for $50 but i really dont think i should have to pay for it again... i have heard of other cars having this issue but why?

This is a very common problem with German cars. Mercedes and BMWs to be exact. They hold such tight tolerances on the windows to create a good seal, it doesn't leave much room for even a thin sheet of tint. My Mercedes did that on all the windows and it killed me looking at it for 6 yrs. It got progressively worst each time I lowered and raised the windows.
If you do a search on 'tint' and 'scratches' on the forum you will find plenty of discussions on the topic. For some (like the E90 crowd), it's a bit of hit and miss with the majority of us only having problems on the rear windows and not the front; but only after a certain MY date. The shop is right, you can keep redoing the tint but it will keep scratching. There are some suggestions on what you can do to prevent/minimize the problem but no one will guarantee that it will work for sure. Most likely I wont re-tint unless you do attempt to make a change in the seals. That would be throwing good money away IMO.

My windows squeak without tint (particularly passenger window) and that is why I decided not to tint this car. I have had tint on my last 5 cars and wanted it for this car but the scratches would drive me crazy. If I lived somewhere like FL, I might have to live with it.

My tint installer removed the entire door panel and window trim in order to install the tint all the way down the glass and also clean out the seal and anything else touching the glass. I have not had any problems, i occasionally get streaks but they wipe off with some Invisible Glass, result of residue on window seal that runs onto the tint when windows open/close but not scratches.

My old 3er had that prob. and my dad's merc has this problem. My installer told me it happens because there is either dirt on the rubber piece or on the roller. It really does bug me when I drive the Merc. I sit there and rub hoping that it will go away.

The tint is plastic film, if something abrasive gets on it and it is lowered thru the rubber seal, it is going to scratch. That's why factory tint is glass, not plastic film. The cleaner you keep the inside the less the chance of scratching.

My factory tint got scratched at the top of my drivers side window somehow... I don't see how it would happen as I have never seen debris in my upper seal, and closing the door (when the window rolls up the last 1/8 inch) is the only thing I can think would have made that scratch.
It is annoying.

I prefer my leather not to crack after two years of ownership, and to be protected from UVs. And to be honest, I don't think that was called for.
