Will 335i engine be used in 2009 Z4?
Recently, I test drove a 2008 Z4 coupe 3.0si and a 2008 135i back-to-back. The difference between engines was significant, with the 135i being very responsive and stronger throughout the entire range of RPM. To me, it would be a perfect fit in the new Z4. Does anyone have any info on this possibility?
Is there any info out there on what BMW might use to power the "M" ? (Perhaps a higher output version of the same engine?) Finally, are there any pictures of the new Z4 coupe? I just joined, so thanks for your help! |

Most likely the answer is yes, BMW will use the N54 engine in the new Z4, and perhaps will use the S65 engine in the M variant later on down the road.
See this thread regarding the next generation Z4: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143545

I hope they use the turbo engine next year! I would so totally get one. And imagine, a Z4 with 300 hp turbo engine with incentives...yeah baby!!

well...i can imagine a Z4 with 300hp, just test drive a M Roadster with 330hp. but in the M Roadster you really have to wind up the engine and it's a very coarse engine. the twin-turbo i feel is much more torquey and smoothy than the M 6-cylinder. plus, it'd be great if you can get the 300hp turbo for $6k to $8k less than a M Roadster! (that's going based on today's prices for a Z4 3.0si vs M Roadster.

I have cars with both engines. It's kind of a pointless argument since the S54 is history. But anyway the N54 is more torquey and the S54 is more smoothey. The N54 has lots of power at low RPM and feels like a small V8. It drops off quickly over 6000 RPM. The S54 feels like a highly tuned race engine (which it is) and feels better and better all the way to 8000 RPM. The N54 would be a perfect choice for the new Z4 but probably not the M version.

If you look closely at these photos, you should see that the next Z4 has the same exhaust system as the 335. That seems like a slam dunk.
http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134665 Maybe they'll keep the NA engines for the Z2. |

It also looks like ACS wheels on the car, could be a loaner from BMW to ACS to get some testing done for aftermarket parts (like exhaust) in time for the release...

I think we'll know what they are planning when we see what they put in the 1 seriers M.
cause the 135 already has the N54 I doubt they will put the S52 in there. and I doubt they will put an S65 so what will they put? would tell us a lot about the direction M is taking. my guess is a tuned N54 and say hello to FI |
