loose gear handle

I still can't believe it

I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd and the gear handle got loose and the car is stuck in second gear ! the handle can move around in any direction and doesn't do anything.

did this happen to anyone ?
is this a big deal ?
what does the dealer have to do ?
I was hoping the dealer would never get to mess with the car.
and now I have to worry about someone at the dealership over revving the non broken in engine.

I'm gonna give them shit, I could have gotten into an accident.

I'm gonna call the dealer tomorrow morning. I was very careful with the car its not my fault.

now my car has to park outdoors for the night.

good thing i was close to my home, just drove it home in 2nd.

Did the knob come off, or did the whole lever stop working?

leaver doesn't do anything its stuck in second,

I called roadside assistance, they sent a flat bed tow truck and took it back to the dealer.
now I'm driving around in an X5

i think this happened to the top gear guy or one of the other shows when he was reviewing the M roadster.

dealer said there was a clip missing that connects the handle to the transmission
