My M loves to f**k with me
i seriously have no idea what is wrong with it. Around 9k the car began to feel sluggish. I took it to the stealer to get it checked out. They said it was fine and even got a mechanic to test drive it. He said it was fine. IT WAS NOT. i drive this car everyday and know when something is different. I got an oil change at 13k and it went away. Last week the problem came back. By sluggish i mean bunny hop....delay in trottle response.....doesnt want to rev. Ive given up on the stealer since they think its fine because there are no codes.
I just came back from the garage and cleaned the MAF (which ive done numerous times) and checked out the BMC filter. Its fine now. WTF. Ive come the the following conclusions: -fuel pump (doubtful because of no code) -fuel filter can it really make a difference? (im pretty sure this is the problem because my car has had A LOT of bad gas becuase im so cheap) -dont know another one i have a feeling its bad gas since i went to this one place way too many times in the past. I always use 93 though. suggestions helpful Last edited by MMMazing07; 06-03-2008 at 09:58 PM.. |

ive always run 93. i just made a mistake going to those "low price" gas stations sometimes. a lot of people told me that they mix chemicals in there gas hence the low prices. i use V power all the time now. problem tends to arise every once in a while still

I dont think low octane gas would make that much of a difference or would cause the problem on a new car

The MAFS are probably shot (you can only clean them as much and when they go bad they go really go bad easily after cleaning them)...Bad gas is also a possible culprit, check your fuel filter or replace it...try using Chevron

a faulty MAF? dealer wont replace it since there are no codes.
if you are implying that it is because i clean it that is very unlikely. I dont just go under my hood and dip the MAF in water. I use gloves and make sure not to touch the MAF itself. I spray it with CRC MAF cleaner. Anyway the problem started before i cleaned the MAF for the first time Last edited by MMMazing07; 06-04-2008 at 08:00 AM.. |

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins,
I did it on mine when I installed the DICE module and it was like I awoke a new car! Snappier around the low revs, and just overall more responsive, worth a shot

There's a throttle adaptation reset procedure as well... and you might find it here somewhere

I put 89 octane in my old car for the last few fill ups before returning it. I was putting 93 octane before.
sometimes when the engine is idle it makes a few knocking sounds, or revs up a bit (1-200 rpm or so) then revs down on its own. other than that I didn't notice much effect to throttle respose or power. but maybe there was. |

I had a simular problem, and finally they identified a code to replace the #5 coil and a $28 spark plug. I was also told that BP/Amoco gasolines are no longer BMW recommended that Shell, Texaco, and Cheveron are the ones to use and have a lower ethanol content. the new coil seem to solve the problem, who knows if the change of gasoline is just BMW BS

If you go to a Gas station with one nozzle on all 87,89 and 93 are you still getting pure 93 octane? or mix? is that bad?

You could switch cars with me for a week and I can guarantee you it won't feel sluggish when we switch back. I would be up for switching car every month or so if you need. Just trying to help a friend out.
