Did it.
I fully intended to replace my 530xiT with a 535xi sedan in December when my lease ends. However, I couldn't resist taking an M3 coupe for a test drive when it arrived at my local dealer a couple of months ago. Loved it, but was still leaning toward the more practical 5 series. Went to the dealer's reception a few weeks later and saw their Jerez Black/Black sedan. Very nice, but the 5 series made more sense for me. Stopped in for service a couple of weeks ago and took it for a drive. Moved into the "this might work" column, but it had more options than I wanted. This week they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Gave them my deposit tonight. Picking it up in a couple of weeks. Still can't believe I'll be driving an M3.

When you drive it home from the dealer you will get this amazing feeling and all doubts will be quashed. Trust me, I had goose bumps when I pulled off the lot (is that pathetic?).

I actually had it delivered from South Dakota. I bought it on Ebay and it was delivered to a Wal-Mart parking lot. It has no options other than Silverstone and I paid 53.7K no tax because of RR Sport trade in. So, yes, I drove it off the Wal-Mart lot.
Edit: I think you have me confused with the original post member |

Great choice. You will not regret it. I was contemplating replacing my 2003 M3 with a 550i but I decided to go with the new M3. Boy! What was I ever thinking before.
Trust me, the M3 is an amazing car, super fast but also comfortable like a 5'r Congrats! Post pics please |

Thanks for the support. This is a major change. All wheel drive, not terribly fast, mid sized wagon to a way fast, somewhat compact, sports sedan. Almost like when I traded my Fiat Strada for an Alfa GTV6 back in 1982. Pics will be posted soon.

I bought it off the lot. It is a launch car that's got almost every option, which is probably why it hadn't sold. This is going to sound stupid, but it's one of those psychological things. I'm keeping my wagon until the end of the lease, so I'll have two lease payments until November. Just trying to keep the two payment period as short as possible. I have a feeling that after some discussion on this forum, I'll call the dealer on Monday and tell them I'll pick it up on Tues, so feel free to convince me that I'm being stupid.

interesting. If Alfa had developed the GTV6 like BMW developed the M3 we may still be driving an Alfa. When I drove the M3 in Feb (and placed my order) it felt just as you described - a GTV6 with 20 years of development.

Well, you talked me out of waiting until the end of the month. It REALLY took a lot of convincing!!! Picked it up yesterday. It's great. Here are some bad photos I took this evening. I'll take some better ones when it's lighter and I have my wife's camera which is better than mine.
