Only have 200 on my car, so I will be doing the driving tour on Saturday. Can't wait. Up for a DC convoy if anyone wants to participate.

Car Control Clinic would be a great intro to the track, especially since we are limiting the speeds to 70 mph on Jefferson. Its a great way to really understand the limits of your car

For those wondering, 'what's Car Control Clinic?' or 'what's Highway Safety School?', it's essentially an introduction to the track. Learn the performance limits of your car on a real road course at local driving speeds- with an experienced instructor in the passenger seat.

And guess what...convertibles are allowed!

A good working car is required, so we've arranged for FREE tech inspections at the following locations (pre-scheduled appointments are required):

Tier Care Care (Official NCC HPDE Tech Sponsor)
307 Church Lane
Pikesville, MD
(410) 486-2622

BMW of Sterling
21710 Auto World Circle
Sterling, VA
(571) 290-6782

I might sign up. I definitely want to do one at some point before getting on the track, but just want the 1200 break-in to be done.

Any more of the HSSes planned for future NCC events?

This is the first HSS in probably 10 years and no plans to hold another one anytime soon.

Honestly, I totally understand about the break-in period, but with the low speeds for this event, it would be ideal since we hold everything under 70mph. I'll post more info shortly.

Interested in a Highway Safety School – that allows convertibles – with an introduction to High Performance Driving on Saturday May 12th ?? Have I got a deal for you !!

The National Capital Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America (NCC BMW CCA) is holding a Chapterfest weekend at Summit Point that includes a Highway Safety School, an event that provides an opportunity for you to review (or be introduced to) the performance limits of your car at parking lot and local driving speeds – with an experience instructor in your car at all times.

No, you don’t have to be a BMW club member to register. Yes, you can drive your everyday car.

Three skill stations are provided on an enclosed course, with an instructor in the vehicle at all times:
THRESHOLD BRAKING
Entrants are taught proper techniques of car control while braking in a straight line and while car is in a turn.
SLALOM
Parking lot speeds on a serpentine course outlined by safety pylons, laid out to highlight car control methods, eye - hand movements, and “ocular driving skills”.
SKID PAD
A wet, slippery circle designed to let you experience loss of traction at slow parking lot speeds. Your instructor will help you with front and rear skid recovery techniques.

The afternoon sessions are different – with an introduction to techniques for driving a race course.

The whole Jefferson track is opened up to our entrants to provide an introduction to high performance driving - at reduced speeds. You will enjoy a safe introduction to how to drive your car on a race track at reduced speeds with your coach explaining where to place your car on the track, when to turn, when to brake, etc. Speeds are limited to 70 MPH on the straights. Passing is allowed only on the straights and are supervised by your instructor.

Convertibles allowed: Max speed is limited to 70 MPH. This allows you to enter with your convertible!! This is one of the few events that can accommodate your convertible.

Why would you want to do this?
You will become a safer driver. Studies have demonstrated that participation in car control events leads to a reduction in accidents by the participants. You can use your renewed car control skills to see and avoid accidents. The other reason, this is fun.

Here are the details and a link to register:

BMW Chapter Fest – Highway Safety School
Date: Saturday May 12th
Time: 7:30 am - 5:00 PM
Location: Summit Point Raceway - Jefferson Circuit
Registration Fee: $225.00
Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license

Registration: msreg.com/2018-NCC-Chapterfest-HSS

Not interested in entering? If you are not interested in entering, please consider volunteering to help with the event. We need experienced Street Survival coaches and volunteers to chase cones, help with registration and all of the other logistics to run a successful event. You also qualify for the free BBQ dinner if you are interested.
You can sign up to volunteer using this link: msreg.com/2018-BMW-VOL-HSS

Please let me know if you have any questions: hpd.instructor@blueskylover.com

They don't at Summit Point. They have 93 and some high octane (I forgot which ones) through Sunoco at the paddock. I don't recommend running e85 unless you have a lot of jugs to cover the track day + journey home.

I could be mistaken but the last time I tracked there, there weren't any e85 stations close by. I had to bring 30 Gallons of e85 and even that wasn't enough to last me 2 track days.

There are a couple of Sheetz stations within 25 minutes of Summit. One in Winchester (1683 Berryville Pike
Winchester, VA 22603) and one in Charles Town (1130 Marlowe Rd
Charles Town, WV 25414). Both have E85 pumps.
