hands free law starts in CA 7/1
Do most of you have bluetooth installed? The law in Calif is changing so you can only speak hands free. I would assume that it will be like the seatbelt law in that you likely won't be stopped for not being hands free.
Thoughts? Feelings? Bluetooth installed? Rosie

Bluetooth FTW, I have a headset for home and Premium package on my car
I just like having both of my hands free.

I have a BT earpiece but dont use it much because people say I look like a tool. Its a bit hard to use in the Z because of wind noise.

I have BT in my coupe. I don't usually keep BT turned ON on my phone though and I don't always turn it on when I get in my car. BT or not, I still am not a fan of casual conversation while driving.
IMHO, switching to hands-free is better than nothing but the biggest problem I see is that people tend to be too into their phone conversations and not paying enough attention to the more important task at hand (driving). I almost got to see a Smart car in a rear crash test on the way home from work the other day because the driver was too busy on his phone (BT headset) to notice that he turned out into traffic and cut off a Chevy that then had to swerve to avoid hitting him and almost took out the car in the left lane and those behind him. |

I have tried 4 different phones with the in car BT.
Everyone on the other end has complained and I broke down and got a in-ear BT device. Does anyone use the in car BT with good results? |

It's almost impossible to hear a person in a Z4 convertible on BT with the top down. BT in my car is only useful with the top up.

my car doesn't have bluetoth, but i hear its near useless b/c the mic is in the steering column.
i have the aiph jawbone headset and its great, the one issue is that it doesn't do that good of a job of canceling wind noise. the new jawbone 2 is supposed to fix that. |

My samsung blade and my current iPhone both work great with the car. The windows need to be up if I am doing >35 mph but oh well... it works better than my BT headset I tried to use while riding my motorcycle.
BTW Rosie... I need BOTH hands for those REALLY bad drivers

I wonder if its my car..I have used with Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola phones. All parties on other end complain about the quality of sound being unable to carry on a conversation.

I agree, my BMW bluetooth doesn't work well to carry on any kind of conversation. However if driving and your doing a quickie, then it works just fine. And, it is worse if top is down, and if going over 35 or so.
I plan on using the wired headset, as the Treo bluetooth doesn't work a whole lot better than the BWM wired into the car one. Nice to hear what works and what doesn't. Thanks for clarifying Hawkeye What is it they grow in Iowa? Are there fields to go in and fool around? Rosie

What is the rule for cellphone?
Do you get a ticket if a cop sees you holding the phone or if the phone was in your ear?

That is a good question because texting is probably more dangerous than talking...
