Hey Guys,

I'm wading through the piles of options for x pipes and came across these on bimmerworld:

https://www.bimmerworld.com/Exhaust/...08-09-OEM.html

https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=49800

I just cannot dig up any reviews or much of anything on this setup.

I am looking for: High flow cats (DD so can't take any smell), not too loud, definitely don't want a raspy sound, no cutting welding. I want 80% gains of catless, but subtle sleeper with a growl at WOT. I'm on the fence when it comes to changing out the OE muffler. That will come later. Right now I'm looking for the gains.

So these might fit the criteria.

Anyone running these or know if any sound clips?

Thanks for any help!

This is basically a stock xpipe. It's not a performance product. Zero gains to be had and 100% waste of your money if you're looking for performance.

Look for something that has high flow cats if you want any performance gains. ESS, AFE, Evolve and others make an xpipe that will fit your criteria.

Ah! Thank you for clarifying.

New the the M3 community and I have to say it's mind bending how many exhaust options there are for this car!

Thanks again for pointing me back on track.

Just a tad off topic, but when I was researching the ESS option, it looks to me that their exhaust was only available as a full exhaust with mufflers? I was hoping to do x pipe first, then mufflers later if still looking for more bark.

Email IND distribution, ESS and/or EAS and ask them. They sell it seperately, but not listed. Also check the members for sale section for engine/drivetrain parts, good deals pop up often.

Good luck on your search.

if the car is a track car, stick to catless.

Thanks Gordon.
The car is my daily driver, so wading through all the options for 2 or 4 HFC pipes, with without resonators,etc...

Just get a catback exhaust and leave the factory cats/x-pipe as-is. There are dozens of choices here.

Any sort of X-pipe with high-glow cats and resonators is going to make your wallet lighter and do very little for performance.

Ah!
I was under the opposite impression thinking all the restriction was in the cats.
Thanks for the heads up!

Really? Xpipe with high flow cats will yield noticeable performance gains.

If you want the best bang for the buck, look into test pipes and buy another stock xpipe so you can revert back to stock.

i disagree. my bimmerworld resonated x-pipe with HFCs welded in the rear made 17 peak more whp than my test pipe setup (with a ESS 625). so yes, they do a lot for performance.

Correct

This is well documented. The Bimmerworld Xpipe produces measurable horsepower over the stock one even with test pipes

It's due to the location of the X, it is closer to the engine which is good for performance. Very similar to the ESS xpipe I also have.

Fabspeed do 200 CELL HJS HFC's which you could add to your choice of X-pipe. They sit in the primary position, so I believe you can probably add them without triggering a check engine light. If you added them to the stock X-pipe which retains secondaries I doubt there will be any smell at all.

Alternatively you could get the Evolve HFC X-pipe which has high flow cats and resonators, the HFC's are in the secondary position. This gives power gains very close to full catless. There is probably a bit of smell until they warm up. You would want a tune to get the best out of it.
