iOS 12 Issues
I'm poor and no Apple car play but anyone else experiencing this issue after updating to iOS 12? Basically, instead of the music track name, it just has the track number.

When it comes to IOS updates. You always disconnect your phone to iDrive completely. Delete both on both sides, turn the car off then reconnect everything.
Restart your phone too if you must then hope it works. I have currently no problems with IOS 12 and iDrive 6. It seemed to fixed a few things already from my initial trial, not constantly repeating the top song in my Music Playlist that starts with "A" when I start my car. FFS that was annoying as hell.

It's a good thing I enjoy the sounds my car makes, as I have been enjoying only that since I updated to iOS 12. I have found that the iDrive 6 (or whatever the version is in 2018 F series cars is), while it looks nicer and has a better layout, does not work all that well in connecting to Apple devices.
After iOS 12 I no longer have access to Spotify or the BMW Apps. I have coded out the fake engine sound, so the last couple of days I have just put the car in sport mode and cracked the rear windows. I am going to try Arcades suggestion and see if I get anywhere. Personally, I find CarPlay far less compelling than native iDrive, I usually just run Waze on my phone when going places. I am looking forward to that working with CarPlay, maybe when that works, I will turn CarPlay on. Maybe I am missing something, but I find that CarPlay just makes the iDrive screen look like a lite version of an iPad and forces you to use Siri to do everything. I have access to Siri with long press voice command button, and where I live Apple navigation, while vastly improved of late, still is not my goto for navigation. B. If you want Apple CarPlay, you can add it afterwards. But I haven't had any issues with iDrive since updating to iOS 12, including playing music from Spotify. |

No issues here either, including with CarPlay.
I am also liking Google Maps on my iDrive screen! Still trying to figure out all the options, like how I can zoom in or out. No luck yet but the satellite view looks amazing!

I tried Arcade's suggestion (deleted connection from both phone and car, restarted both) but unfortunately, still same issue. I might just go back to the iOS I had before 12 which will hopefully fix it.

One thing to try/verify for those of you who have issues with iDrive and CarPlay is to ensure your iDrive system has the latest BMW iDrive firmware update. You can download the update file directly from BMW and do the update yourself (I am sure the dealer can do it for some $$ as well). The most recent BMW iDrive update included bug fixes for the newer iPhones to include the X.
For what it is worth, I have not had any issues with iOS 12 and iDrive yet - but I just upgraded to iOS 12. I did have a few audio "bugs" where sometimes iDrive would change the audio source to an Apple audio source from a Sat radio audio source randomly - hopefully the bug is fixed. But then I am still using an old school iPhone 6s .
