Great Z4 gas mileage!!
Had the pleasure of driving my Z4 from Maryland to Clarksburg WVA for business. I was impressed with the MPG i was getting. The distance was 237 miles so i could not factor a complete tank of gas, but i covered 227 miles on the 1st half of the gas guage, this was at a steady cruise engaged 70MPH with the AC on. the route was interstates 270 to 70 to 68 to 79, if your ever in that part of the country its worth taking a spin on these roads...

Doesn't make any sense to me man. Vanos seal job helped my mileage. I know you did a lot of other maintenance at the time too, so I'm wondering if you can't just count it on the vanos job. |

remember... your mpg gauge is a liar & is usually +2 mpg than what you're actually getting. i usually get:
~23-25 city (which sounds just about right) and ~27-29 fwy (depends on a/c use & if going 65 mph, or 70) the figures state 21/29, but if you're realistic you need to be doing completely city, or absolute fwy. you could prolly hit 30 mpg if -no a/c, drive 65 mph w/ cruise total mileage / total gallons = real mpg

my last trip was almost purely freeway and mostly flat. 160 miles at 55-60 and 29 mpg. That's top down, light freeway traffic, no AC. The OBC read 34 for a while, but the first time I moved above 65 for a couple miles, that dropped to 30. I could see good mileage on flat terrain, but I do quite a bit of elevation changing in the city and on the freeway. My average for my commute is about 21. That's 5 miles of stop and go streets and 4 miles of up and down hill freeway.

Here in chicago... while on Lake Shore Drive... from the north end to the south end, i have gotten 40 mpg. I just came back from a trip, displayed showed 36.1 mpg while i cruised at 65 mph.
Every day driving, which is combination of 50/50 city/highway. i'm getting 26-28. I have a 04' 3.0 z4 |

Jiles
Why don't people check their mileage ACCURATELY? The only sensable way to check gas mileage is to write down your mileage, or "O" your trip meter, fill up and drive normally. When you get gas, write down number of gallons and do this for at least 1000K miles. Then check your mileage. This is your M.P.G. I have a 2001 z3 with 3L automatic with 71K miles. I have checked my mileage at least 3 times and I average 26.3 M.P.G. mostly highway driving at the speed limit. I could drive like a "little old lady" and get over thirty on the highway but what good would that do me? Every body get better mileage then me.

I reset my tripometer everytime I fill up and then calculate off of the gallons I use each fill. I guess some people don't but being a numbers guy it is difficult for me not to.
I usually average 24-26mpg because I drive faster than most.
