Does having a Stage 2 map increase were on stock oem plugs?

Hey guys ~

I was under the notion of increased HP does wear out oem plugs fast, especially

when not plugs are not gapped down.

I got 9941miles out from brand new OEM plugs, OEM plug gap, does this

seem acceptable mileage?

I have no problem replacing plugs frequently but it might become a problem

if I have to replace ignition coils this frequent as well.

If running Bosch plugs gap them at 0.022 or switch to NGK'S 97506 gapped at 0.020.

When running a moderate tune or ethanol blend it is recommended to reduce service intervals in half (includes fluids as well). Plugs on stock car are recommended at 25k so if you got close to 10k on stock gap I think that sounds close enough. Not sure on the lifespan of the coil packs so maybe someone else will chime in.

No need to change Ignition Coils, unless you're running a really bad tune

YES , I had to replace the stock plugs with a stage 2 tune...car ran badly. NGK'S 97506 ....colder plug less gap worked well....no issues

Semi-pro tips:

1. Try not to expose the cylinder heads by pulling the coilpacks and spark plugs all at once.

2. Try not to mix the coilpacks and spark plugs by pulling them all at once.

3. If you insist on pulling the coilpacks and spark plugs all at once, then at least cover the cylinder hole with a clean shop towel. Do the same for the turbo inlet/outlet.

4. Don't be lazy. Remove the aluminum brace to gain better access to cylinders 5 and 6. Otherwise, you risk stripping the spark plug threads and improperly seating the spark plugs. You're most definitely preventing yourself from being able to apply proper torque values on those two cylinders.

5. Dust off the coilpack ends with compressed air.

With that being said, your factory spark plugs still look serviceable for a little bit longer on the factory tune. However, you may be experiencing misfires, because the atmospheric conditions have been way too favorable for Forced Induction engines, thus the factory spark plug gap and heat range is unable to keep up with the increased ignition demand.

Stock spark plugs are rated for up to 30k miles on the factory tune. Expect the 1-step colder NGKs to last about 15-20k miles.

Tunes wear out plugs! Expect to replace spark plugs at 1/2 to 2/3 of the normal wear schedule.

I see ~ Yeah I'm running the most popular set up on this forum. So my coils should be ok for now ~

Hey ~ Thank you for the detailed reply ~ I appreciate it ~
This was the third time my M3 was getting the plugs replaced.
We did cover up after the photos were taken.
The car has Stage 2 Map, it is logical for stock plugs to have a shorter interval. Thank you .
