DIY - BMW Center caps for BBS Rims
For those who like the stock look of the BMW center caps I recently did this, Hopefully it helps someone! The stock BMW center cap is 68 mm (actually measures at 68.5 mm), and the BBS center caps are 70 mm. If you buy the 70 mm 2D BBS center caps there is a plastic lip that conveniently leaves a 69 mm space so the BMW center cap fits well. On Amazon you can buy "BMW" replacement center caps that are 68 mm that simply have metal tabs that release them. You can fracture off the tabs and file them down if necessary, then glue them onto the BBS center caps. Easy. 1. Buy 70 mm 2D BBS center caps 2. Dental floss or pry off the aluminum BBS logo 3. Back of BMW replacement center cap from Amazon (I suspect these are knockoffs for older models, the new BMW center caps are near impossible to remove without damaging them, but these work and are very good quality). 4. Left - BMW cap with tabs removed, Right BBS cap with logo removed, note the small lip at the edge, and the small recess just inside the lip that fits the BMW center cap perfectly. 5. Fit from the side: 6. Glue I used, there are several you can try but I've had good success with this in the past for external applications: 7. 4 BMW center caps and de-emblem'ed 70 mm BBS center cap bases: 8. Compared to the 3D BBS logo from my rims: EDIT: had to rey-load my pictures and re-link everything

Thanks for this, what tire size are you running in the rears? Are these the diamond black finish?

265/35 19 front, 295/30 19 rear. No problems with traction control/MDM intervening. Traction is much better than the stock 666s, surprisingly so. Those have MPSS so maybe a width thing, more likely a compound/new tire thing. They are dusted/dirty in the pics I posted, but here they are before ceramic coating.

Hey all - been getting several requests to put my photos back in this post, so they are back after my albums were wiped out during the mass censoring on Bimmerpost that accompanied the G80 portion of the forums opening. Hope these help someone.

Thanks for posting the pics!
To those interested, some BBS wheels (CI-R for example, not sure of others) use the "newer" 56mm center caps used on the F97/98 (X3M/X4M series) rather than the 68mm referenced in this post. When I ordered my new wheels (CI-R) I had reached out to the OP to ask him to update with pics (thanks again! ) but when I received them they seemed very close to my X3MC center caps (56mm). Sure enough they fit - not 100% perfect (if you do not push evenly they can sit out of flush with the surface) but well enough that I do not feel the need to get replacement caps. Though I'm now on the hunt for 56mm BMW center caps with black carbon fiber/white.... Here they are on my X3MC: |
