Soft close door issue and coding
A few days ago my driver's door soft close suddenly decided to make a ratcheting noise every time I close the door. You can see it slightly moving (the door) each time. It ratchets 4-5 times and stops. This happens every single time, it's not intermittent. The door latch works fine. Is there a limit switch that went bad and is replaceable? Maybe the cable connecting the motor to the latch is stripping out?
Looking for thoughts on what I should check before replacing parts. Or opinion on what part went bad Also, anyone know if I can use Bimmercode to disable soft close function? I'm not looking to make it permanent, but it's embarrassing driving the car in public or with passengers. The noise is loud AF! |

Thanks for the replies. I know my battery isn't strong, but I haven't had any "low battery" warnings during this time. (I have in the past and didn't get any problems with the door)
I'll just have to pull the door panel as suggested and see if I can pinpoint it. |

There is only one purchasable part so you have to buy the whole thing, see realoem.com.
If you are in a rush you can always go to an independent bmw shop. |

Didn't think to check realoem. Thanks
No way would I take my car to a shop to work on it unless it was for tires or an alignment. :-) I do all of my own work. I have the car in the garage now, going to pull the door panel and inspect while it's making noise. |

My car just started doing this today. What ended up being the fix?
