Understand the excitment (I'm in line for more than $6k if it does go down) but all they have to do is give Fielding reason to change his mind and it's back. So there's still every chance we'll still have to pay it (again in your case watrob...).

It's dead & burried for another 12 months. The car industry is down nearly 46%. I'm afraid Labour will have to rip off the elderly for a little longer.
Labour are idiots, they still don't get it, if the tax was not so high more people would buy new cars and the more money they would get into the coffers. Lifting up the tax actually was not going to make them 555mil becasue people stopped buying new cars. The slow down in sales prove's that. They had a 27bil tax surplus as it was, Labour will impload, they always do, the past always repeats itself. You must remember one of the greatest Australian belief's, "Lest We Forget"

The LCT component of my car was just over $7K & from what my accountant told me this morning I won't see it until there is a final resolution. That's MONTHS away.
watrob, how you have yours back already is a minor miracle. |

Lets see watrob - hopefully it'll be sorted before I get my car so I don't have to wait to get it back. You did really well getting it back now.
Whatever, I think most here would agree it's a poor tax. |

I signed a form when i picked up the car saying the dealer will be holding the increased amount of tax in trust, if the tax does not get through parliment the amount will be dedusted fro the lease payment....
Hopefully in another week it will be buried again and we can get the $$$ back.... |

Rudd can try again this week, but the car industry is hurting. I think this is more a save face. But it still not going to pass.

Hey Guys,
Received an email from my accountant yesterday in regards to LCT. I am in this bracket and some of you maybe in the same boat so I guess check with your accountant. Just a couple of paragraphs for the ATO website. If a contract to purchase or import a luxury car was made before 7.30pm AEST on 13 May 2008, the LCT payable will remain at 25% regardless of when vehicle was delivered. Suppliers (your BMW dealer) Must provide a refund to customers of any additional 8% for cars contracted before 13 May 2008 and delivered after July 1st 2008. It's on the ATO website issued 7th November 2008. |

After contacting my dealer via email about it (I like things to be in writing) it took them over a week to get back to me. They are still "looking into it". I place my original purchase order in February 2008 & was to take delivery in August 2008 but I changed my mind on the colour combo when I saw one in the showroom & bought that a week before my original order turned up. I'm leaving it with my accountant to chase up.. |

And congratulations with the new baby. I didn't want to say anything. Like to leave that sort of thing up to person who's news it is...... |
