Question Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 285 or 295/30/20 for Rear

Hi Guys, I have an M3 Competition with the 666 wheels. Everyone in this country is out of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 285/30/20. They all saying Michelin will have them at the end of July. I'm trying to upgrade my sets of Michelin Super Sports to the 4S but no one carries the rears. A few questions?

1) Do you know where I can get that size (285/30/20) Michelin PS4s?
Everyone else has the front 265/30/20

2) If I go with a 265/30/20 F & 295/30/20 R will it work? If so, what's the positive and negatives?

3) I've seen people run 275/30/20 F & 295/30/20 R. Any upside to this run

4) Some are running Porsche 245/35/20 F & 295/30.20 R. Why?

I'm looking for the best setup for high speed and track. I tracked the car stock and it held up great with 265 & 285 Michelin PSS.

Thanks

I am in a similar situation. I got a nail in my MPSS stock 285/30/20 rear and can’t find star-rated rears. Similar story on the MP4S. Craziness. Luckily, I am working from home...

Most of our customers run MP4S 265/30/20 front and 295/30/20. It's what we recommend to avoid issues with the ECU. As long as the tire OD is within 1.5% from the front the rear ratio of OEM, No drawbacks.

You can run 275 front, but it won't clear all suspension setup so 265 is safer. Please don't run 245/35 front and 295/30 rear, unless it's for a winter setup. Your chassis already understeer as is.

We've done hundreds of setup for the F8x and personally track this chassis so I we know a thing or two about what works.

295/30 at lease turn in?

Great insight and confirmation on the 295/30 rears. I am leaning this way for my 666 with MP4S.

If stock is 285/30, would there be an issue with 295/30 at lease turn in?

I'm running 255 upfront and 295 in the rear soon and I've heard there's no issues with that. I'm on smaller rims (19 inch 437m).

I know for a fact that on your wheels 265 and 295/30 is fine. It's better than 285 if anything you'll def hav an improvement in traction, I believe they suit your rim size better anyways supposedly.

Also, do not run 275 up front. The 275+ tires have slightly different tread that doesn't prevent hydroplaning the way the 265 does. I also heard it makes the car feel rubbery on my rims (437m) idk about yours. I know this applies to PSS/PS4S idk about other tires.

Go 265 front and 295 rear you'll have no regrets.

I'm running ps4 285/30/20 my rim is 11" wide and I wish I went with 295 . See below my tire is slightly stretched and I'd prefer it more flush . I believe a 295 would be perfect .

My fronts are 265/30/20. I'm definitely changing them next set. My rims are 9.5" and the 265 looks silly and stretched . The whole tire rim looks small in the fender . Not sure if 265/35 may be a better choice then a 275. See below my two pic for reference . I'm aware my rims are wider then the 666 although I believe a 295 on a 10" should be nice and meaty.

The p4s is a much better tire then the super sport . Significant traction increase .

I have a 2018 F82 M4 with the Comp M666 20 inch wheels. The PSS tires are shot. I have decided to go with the PS4S 265/30/20f and 295/30/20r.
They arrive Monday!

Thank you all for the advice in this thread!

Love the M3 set up you have! I have a 2009 BMW M3 E92 space gray metallic with a VT2-600 ESS Supercharger as well! I love it, the car has so much more get up and go with the ESS set up.

I am running 295/30/20 PS4S's in the rears with no spacers and I'm lowered on KW V3's. All I can say is they are night and day over the PSS. So much more traction and they look great also!

Those looks really good, much taller than stander tyres for some reason.

Any scrubbing at all?

Ess makes an amazing kit. I truly enjoyed my e-chassis with the supercharger. Hands down best mod for the buck. I'd do that setup again and again.

Had a bit of rubbing when I took her on the Nurburgring...but I kind of figured I would..going to raise the rear just a bit and that should take care of it.

MP4S: 285/30 20 are out of stock 8-10 weeks

FYI — While ordering MP4S tires, my shop called Michelin directly. The estimate from corporate is at least 8-10 weeks until the 285/30 rears are back in stock.

Based on the feedback in this thread, I ordered the 295/30 MP4S for 666 wheels. Excited about the upgrade from MPSS. Thanks!

So I just changed tires to MP4S with the 265 fronts and 295 fronts. She feels so sticky now. WOW!

The Porsche has MP4S too, 245 fronts & 305 rears.

Here are front and rear pics.

Just went with the exact same 265/295 PS4 setup today and agree it's a completely new feel. I get that new tires always feel great but this was the first time I've been able to go WOT with only a chirp in 2nd and no traction loss in 3rd in a long long time (not that I get many opportunities for that regardless) but the PS4s felt very sticky. For comparison, I was running 265/285 PSS with about "half" tread life left per the dealer.

So if PS4S in the rear width of 295 for 666M wheels have this vast consensus as the way to go, and have vendors even claiming that it's what's needed to "avoid issues with the ECU" why is it that BMW, Tire Rack and Michelin all insist on 285s? Are they all wrong? Doesn't quite make sense to me....

PS4S 295 rears look great!

But do we have any other options to get the fronts more sidewalls? I hate the thin rubber band looks of 265/30 on stock 666 wheels.

I'm just curious to know if anyone has tried going 265 front and 275 rear with the MP4s tires on ZCP wheels?

Here my setup for reference on stock suspension.

265/30/20 et 20
295/30/20 et 40

Ps4s is amazing softer and quieter than my stock staggered setup.
