Maybe I’m too anxious but..
I think I might sell my M3. Ive always been an anxious person but currently with covid my career is gone and not coming back anytime soon. Actually, spring of 2022 is earliest prediction we have right now. I’m finding myself almost terrified to even drive it anymore. Every now and then it cranks for a few seconds longer than it should at start up, can’t tell if I’m feeling misfires sometimes or it’s just the car being normal, idles rough sometimes and of course there’s the non stop paranoia of the crank hub failing. I love this car to death, it’s been my dream car to own and I finally got one but the constant fear of “how long till I get that drivetrain malfunction” is just killing me. If the engine goes then it’s scrap cause I sure don’t have the money for a new engine. Just such a bummer that I can’t even enjoy the car I’ve always wanted but I guess that’s life.

if you can afford 5k of repairs over the next 5 years. i think you have nothing to worry about.
not saying youll even need repairs, but a SCH is typically not a catastrophic engine failure. i mean many engines are savable. just lazy shops who'd rather just replace the engine. |

Yes going back to stock will make your stress level go down. Just have fun driving the car stock. No fun to add power when all you do is stress out.

Going back to stock won't help. People spun their hub on a stock tune. I would just get a crank bolt capture and continue to drive the car with JB4.

What year is your M3? If a warranty is such a huge deal to you, sell the car and pick up another at CarMax or something and buy their warranty with it.
Sorry to hear about your Covid issues, I’m already out around $50k since this bullshit started and expecting the other shoe to drop soon. Good luck! |

Chill bro...chill...
First off, sorry to hear about your job. Best wishes to you there. Things will recover. Second, run stock boost. If you're really worried just remove the DPs and JB4 too. Doing the work hands-on will probably relieve some stress. If it's gonna cost you too much just keep as-is and run the stock map. If you can add a CBC going DIY that's also a low cost to reduce risk.

Agree with the others that you should go back to stock. Grab a crank bolt capture, and go from there. You will be fine!
I'm sorry to hear about your income loss during all of this. Far too many of these stories out there. It will return, don't worry. Stay safe, and have fun until then

Another vote for going back to stock. The car is plenty fast stock and you won't have to worry about any more issues than you have to.
Piece of mind is hard to put a price on, so if you decide to sell it, I wouldn't blame you. At the same time, these are pretty reliable cars, spun crank hubs are more rare than you think, especially on a stock tune. Like SYT I've been tracking my stock tune CS once or twice a month for the past 9 months and it's been humming along nicely with no need for more power.

Chances of him blowing his engine with a JB4 and CBC installed is slimmer than him spinning his crank hub on a stock tune. For ~$500 installed, it is a no brainer.

Damn... I bought this car as a stress reliever, and have since tuned and added other bolt-ons. not a day goes by (my daily) that I don't beat the piss out of her @55,000 miles. With that said, no car is the same, so my experience, and good fortune so far with my car will not be the case for everyone. My suggestion would be to trade in, especially if you don't plan to enjoy the car, or if you're worried to touch the gas pedal.
